File paths...

Post by BodieInSD » Wed Apr 06, 2022 2:43 am

I recently read that the file paths and/or file names for certain rocks (as in terrain - the things on the ground - also known as stones) in Fallout NV and FO3 (as in the games' original files) are different in TTW. (and I can't find where I read it now...)

I ask if this is true as I want to add a terrain retexture mod on top of a 'cleaned and merged' NMC pack (done as directed elsewhere on this site), and I wonder if a texture replacer for "rocks" (and other terrain) will overwrite the NMC version (which has overwritten the vanilla textures) that uses the FNV file paths and names will work for the same rocks in the D.C. Wasteland. I also wonder if the process of "cleaning and merging" NMC's packs normalized (for lack of a better term) the paths/names between the two original games' files if it hasn't been done with the base TTW re-working of all the game files.
Or, would it take a ton of rejiggering to make it work?

I hope this question makes enough sense that someone can give me a simple answer. If I actually spewed a word salad in attempting to ask this question, please say so and I will try to make it clearer. Thanks!

The only things with changed paths have "dc" added to the folder or nif name. There is not many of these and is mostly objects like the alphabet letters which are black in F3 and golden in NV. There's a few buildings that also differ. Other than that it's the voice files like maleadult01defaultdc, which are the Fallout 3 ones.

Since New Vegas was literally built on top of Fallout 3, like a mod (literally the first paid mod), it has all new assets for the most part and paths are unique by default.
