Crash to Desktop after the loading slides, but I don't have any mods

Post by misanthrope » Sat May 08, 2021 10:16 pm

I'm having the crash to desktop issue enumerated here, but this is happening on a fresh install of FNV and FO3 without any mods or any disrupted load orders, nor have I used any mod managers. I simply installed the two games from steam, ran them to make the necessary files, ran the installer, tried to launch NV and then after the slides, on the splash screen with the Courier and a dog before any clickable buttons load in, the game crashes. What am I doing wrong here?

You need to go to your new vegas launcher and pick the "DATA FILES" option:

Then you need to check all the boxes that appear there.

Also, make sure you update your NVSE to the latest xNVSE and JIP LN to the latest version too. The ones that come with the installer are old and out of date now.

Sounds a little similiar to what happened to me just recently.

I follow the FAQ procedure and couldnt get the menu to load, it crash when the last slide, courier and a dog, happen on screen.

Fix? I dont know fix, but I share some of my experience that might help you to get it to run.
- From MO2 screen run with TTW excutables, then with NVSE excutables.
- Run Fallout 3 a bit, maybe with less than ten mods. Vault 101 then a bit to megaton.
- Run Fallout New Vegas a bit, maybe with less than ten mods. I dont even do much of Goodspring, out of Doc mitchell I run like hell for the border to test the respec screen.
If it doesnt still work, load a bit TTW mods along, in my case I add minihideout mod, some bodyreplacer, armor/clothes mod, etc...

Like magic, it just auto-appear that menu screen one day~
