GNR songs and NPC animations not working properly (linux)

Post by CapeWrath » Sat Jan 30, 2021 5:58 pm

Hey, I know running TTW on linux is probably not officially supported but maybe someone happens to know how to fix it. Here's the thing, the TTW installer refuses to launch on linux so I installed both games (GOG version) on a windows 10 virtual machine, ran the installer then copied the entire fallout new vegas folder to linux (running debian sid, wine-5.0.3). I then installed FOMM, fixed the FNV registry entries so the game would stop complaining it was not installed and copied all the .ini files from the windows install. The game launches and runs fine, however:

1 - I've noticed no radio songs play, doesn't matter if its GNR or enclave. I can hear three dog fine, menu intro song plays fine as well, it's just the radio songs that are completely silent.
2 - Sometimes the animations for NPCs stop working and they just "glide" stuck in a pose without "moving" but still walking, it's kinda weird. Doesn't happen all the time, and I didn't notice any pattern as to when it does.

I also have both games on steam, didn't have any luck copying the folder from a steam install though. Toggling archive invalidation on FOMM also didn't help. Is it something that happens when you copy the folder without actually using the installer? Is there a way to run the TTW installer on linux using wine?

It's definitely possible to get the TTW installer to run in wine, but it may take some troubleshooting. Make sure you have an up-to-date version of wine(follow instructions for your distro in https://wiki.winehq.org/Download), then make sure to run the installer from terminal: open terminal, navigate to the folder, run "wine TTW\ Install.exe -NoOGGEnc2". If I remember correctly, re-encoding the audio didn't work for me, but you can try without the argument anyway. Then if the installer doesn't work, you get error messages that you can use for troubleshooting. I'd give more detailed information, but it's been a while since I last installed TTW, and the wineprefix I use for New Vegas isn't exactly clean anyway, so what just works for me might require some trial and error from you.
