Suggestion: Re-Writing various guides for clarity

Post by imadethis2download » Thu Mar 21, 2019 1:32 am

This is just a suggestion on clarification in some guides.

A huge part of the difficulty for me so far regarding TTW and modding has been the ambiguity of various guides for TTW which leave open a lot to interpretation and leave an uncertainty on how to proceed with whichever part of the guide is confusing.

Examples:

NMC texture cleaning/merging guide - I found this really difficult to follow as some parts get confusing and the ambiguity of the writing caused a lot of unnecessary difficulty in trying to understand what some parts of the guide meant. There's parts with reference to patches, but there's patches for both games for the NMC so it wasn't clear which ones were being referenced where, and the whole thing just felt really frustrating. Is there not an easier way? Perhaps images or screenshots maybe?

TTW LOD generation guide - Also found very difficulty due to little explanation on some parts and general ambiguity.

example:
You'll need to copy the sArchiveList to your Fallout.ini either in Mod Organizer 1 or 2 or in the base game folder if you are not using Mod Organizer. You should leave out the archiveinvalidation.bsa from the list, it's important to make sure Fallout - Meshes2.bsa is present.
What sArchiveList? From where?

archiveinvalidation.bsa from the list? From what list? Because there's not archiveinvalidation.bsa in an sArchiveList in fallout.ini, if that's even the list it refers to originally..

These lacking details for example are perhaps small, but to some they may be the difference between knowing how to proceed or getting stuck and having to ask questions unnecessarily.
If you use NMC's texture pack, you'll need to the NMC LOD textures from the FNVLODGen nexus page.
I go to the FNVLODGen page and there is no NMC textures - there's only a fix for a single texture but nothing else for NMC's...?

These are just some examples, i haven't poked around heaps on the forum yet but feel like i might come across more.

I only post this to try to help and figured if i was having difficulty surely someone else maybe is or has at some stage too, so the suggestion is just basically seeing if more detail and clarification/explanation can be added to some guides.

As of now i don't really know and have been unable to successfully generate LOD which takes a while.. Any help would be great.

Thanks! :D

The NMC guide was written and revised many times with feedback, it is quite clear. Perhaps you just have difficulty following written instructions. I will see if I can get Gamer Poets to create a video for it.

It's also pretty clear about the sArchiveList in the FAQ.

There are already plenty of tutorials for using LODGen, both written and video tutorials.
