GECK crashes when loading facegen for NPC

So this is an odd one, and this issue is present on both Windows 7, and Windows 10, both x64 and fully updated. running the latest TTW version.

When I edit an existing NPC, or create a new one, and load the facegen in any way (clicking on the Face tab, ticking Full or Head), the GECK freezes without even loading anything. The message log also freezes, and doesn't punt out a new line when it does.

Made sure to install the GECK Extender from Nexusmods, as well as changing sArchiveList to the following: SArchiveList=Fallout - Invalidation.bsa, Fallout - Textures.bsa, Fallout - Textures2.bsa, Fallout - Meshes.bsa, Fallout - Meshes2.bsa, Fallout - Voices1.bsa, Fallout - Sound.bsa, Fallout - Misc.bsa. That still didn't fix it.

Even without GECK extender and the change to sArchiveList, so pure vanilla GECK, it crashes upon loading facegen. Didn't have this issue with my AMD 7850, so maybe it's a problem with Vega cards?

Edit: Oh right, Specs.

OS - Windows 7 x64 (also tested on Windows 10 x64)
RAM - 32GB DDR4 3000Mhz
CPU - i7 6700k (HT disabled)
GPU - Vega 56 8GB

This crash has been reported over the years many times, it seems machine specific and the cause is unknown.

Damn, it's a right pain too, as I was going to start working on my Robotician mod again. Ah well.

Edit: So after some digging, one of the possible solutions is to add GECK.exe as an exception to DEP. That didn't work for me, the GECK still crashes whenever something is rendered.

It would be nice if we could compare the event log with other users that have the same issue, to see if the error details are different at all. Here's the one that is always thrown for me:

Did some testing, and found something rather odd.

Did a completely fresh install of New Vegas, without TTW, and I can render things fine, whether it be NPCs, items, or viewing a cell in the render window. I'll now try installing TTW, to see if that makes the crash occur on the fresh install.

exception code c0000417 is from a wrong C++ runtime error

You did disable ENB from working in GECK right?

Aye, I made sure to check without an ENB present, as well as having the setting to ignore the GECK enabled in enblocal.ini. Normally that BEX crash is due to a Visual C runtime error, typically MSVCR100.dll from all the google reports, but for some reason it occurs solely in GECK.exe.

I'm currently installing TTW 3.2.0, and I'm going to see if the error occurs with each version. Because now that I think about it, I never did get around to modding on 3.2.2, I made Robotician with 3.2.1.

Unfortunately, the crash still persists even on a plain TTW 3.2.0 install. Using the GECK Extender makes no difference, even with the optional 4GB patch thingy, and it's the exact same error too.

Found a post on some far-flung forum about this issue with another application, and he said that reinstalling his graphics drivers fixed it. I'm going to give that a go, but doing so ruins my audio driver. I'll see if that works.

Nope, didn't work. Tried two earlier driver versions, 18.9.2 & 18.12.2, and the error still occured. What was odd, was that I uninstalled my driver completely, and then the GECK threw the same error as soon as it started. Whereas with a graphics driver installed, it occurs whenever an NPC, item, or exterior cell is rendered.

Edit: Well this is bizarre. If I load up all of TTW's masters, the GECK works fine. But if I just load FalloutNV.esm, I get the BEX crash. What on earth.

I suspect problems finding assets in the GECK, since the FaceMod and BodyMod textures may have been in a different BSA.

Did you try the EGT setting in GECKCustom.ini? perhaps this will have an effect.

I had the same issues with weapons until I added the BSAs to sArchiveList

Nope, enabling the EGT entry did not help. Weird. I'll just cope with loading all of TTW's masters.
