Hey all,
There was a post a few days ago inquiring about how mod users will be made aware of updates to mods. While it's not a huge issue right now, I'm sure at some point it will become difficult to keep track of everything. If there was a standard set of naming rules for mod packages, along with how forum topics are titled (and updated whenever a mod is updated) it would go a long way towards cleaning up the forum and simplifying things.
The actual format isn't super important, as long as it's applied universally. A simple example of a such format would be:
"NAME OF MOD[Version][Date of Last Update]"
Using the TTW conversion pack as an example, the forum topic would be: TTW 3.2 Mod Conversion Package[1.0][11-08-18] and the mod would be packaged: TTW 3.2 Mod Conversion Package[1.0][11-08-18].7z Whenever the mod gets updated, the topic and filename would be changed to reflect it.
A few of the benefits to naming conventions:
1) While browsing the forum, you can tell a glance see what mods have been updated just by looking at the topics.
2) It simplifies communication between mod authors and end users, minimizing confusion.
3) It makes it easier to keep your mods organized and up to date in your mod manager.
If a standard set of guidelines were agreed upon and posted in a sticky in the mod release forum, I think it would go a long way towards streamlining that part of the forum and would likely reduce confusion among end users as well as mod authors. (And the more mods that are released, the more confusing it will get.)
Anyway, that's just my 2 cents.
Best regards,
Langeston
