More Windows 10 NVSR/FOSR testing results.

Post by Zhunter5000 » Fri Oct 19, 2018 1:55 pm

So I was once again wrong. Even with the "Fixes" for Windows 10 in NVSR/FOSR the game still consistently crashes, while I admit they don't crash every 10 minutes anymore, it's more like 20 now. I have tried without the stutter remover, and while the crashing is solved (For the most part), the game will stutter so much, that it stutters even when you walk.

The changes I made were to turn off BHookLightCriticleSections, and to change IDefaultMode to 1 or something like that. I am testing with the base FO3, and NV. No TTW, or other mod.

Normally with the SR the game only stutters when you turn. Now I am not exaggerating when I say that I've tried everything. I really have. I am also aware that the results are not the same for every user, as different components can also lead to different results. I know what you may be thinking. "Why is he ranting about the SR on the TTW website?".

Well that's not what I'm trying to ensue. I post highly detailed posts, to help others find out what may happen if they do a certain thing, or what causes a certain crash, something like that. My honest opinion/suggestion would be to install Windows 8.1, or 7 if you want to keep NVSR/FOSR, and want to have a stable game.

I hope these results helped you.

NVSR has issues with win 10, it gives me infinite loading screens so I dont use it, rather cap fps to 30 or something.

EDIT:Also gives me crashes...

Yes I've tried everything. Now it crashes as soon as you get into combat. Well Windows 7 it is then.

I tried it with no luck. Currently back on win 7 so my crashing won't be a issue anymore.

I looked into this a long while ago. NVSR settings in the .ini file can change per user. As not everyone's hardware is identical. So personal settings for one users will not always effect another. It's suggested you try a variation of said settings/recommendations for windows 10 operation.

This Reddit Post shows more options including an increase Heap Size change near the bottom of the .ini.
https://www.reddit.com/r/fnv/comments/8 ... lawlessly/

Also resolved a crash issue for another user who used his original settings by confirming that user had to change 1 of the settings back. Again, NVSR stutter remover's .ini file is editable for a reason, as everyone has varied hardware, so one setting that someone post on a forum may not work for another user.

You should use these post as a Templete on what to change/experiment with to get it working on your particular machine, not something that should be copied literally 1 for 1 or 0 for 0. Though they're starting points.

If worst comes to worst you can just "not" run the game with NVSR. I did for a long time. It reduces stuttering primarily but doesn't eliminate them completely from the game. Definitely if you're using a lot of custom textures/weapons/clothing in the game, even NVSR will not stop all stutters, more you mod the game the less NVSR will save you from stutters. Mostly only helps with FPS in the long run.

Yeah on Win 7 the crashes don't exist, but without nvsr... Oh god the stutters.
