Soundtrack Editing (NOT RADIO) in TTW?

Post by starwarsgal9875 » Fri Dec 04, 2015 7:14 am

So I had a couple questions regarding a few aspects of the game that I thought would be easier to change.

Firstly, the soundtrack. I tried adding new tracks to the game's music folders like I would do in non-TTW Fallout 3 but it appears as if the soundtrack in DC is scripted or something because it'll only play tracks that I gave the same filenames as the originals, and they seem to be time restricted (i.e. if I put a 10 minute track in the place of a 3 minute track, it'll only play the first 3 minutes of the track, whereas tracks which are shorter than the one they replace will have silence at the end).

I expected this, since I don't think Fallout NV has the ability to make custom playlists in the CK/GECK/CS/whatever like Skyrim does. However, what I'd like to know is which scripts are controlling TTW's soundtrack and how to edit them to add new tracks/properly replace existing ones. I couldn't find any other threads relating to this.

Secondly, while I enjoy Fallout NV's loadscreen images, I thought it'd be fitting if I threw a few new ones in there from Fallout 3's concept art and stuff. I have them in the right folder, and they're 2048x1024 dds files with dxt1 compression, but they never seem to show up ingame. Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen any load screen mods for NV that don't replace the existing load screens. Is this possible? If so, how can I do it?

Thanks for the help in advance, and thanks for everyone who contributed to this project's great work! :)

Both are possible, but not

Both are possible, but not with just loose files. If you're not already pretty good at using Edit you'd be better off just doing the load screens mod, which go in the "Loadscreens" group.

Ok, I got the load screens

Ok, I got the load screens working. I'm willing to take a jab at the music, I just have no clue which scripts control TTW's soundtrack. What are the script IDs? I should be able to figure out to modify the script to my needs by studying it, I've done music scripts in Morrowind.

Seriously tho, does anyone know which scripts in TTW control the music? I would have thought someone would have replied. I can figure out how they work myself, I promise I won't come back complaining if I break my game. Just tell me what scripts I need to edit.

Ok, then if it's not scripted

Ok, then if it's not scripted, how do I edit it? Replacing the files doesn't work like it does in normal fallout 3 and I can't just add new tracks because they won't play at all.

EDIT: Ugh, it was nested under "Audio". I don't understand why someone couldn't have just told me that...

iirc, sesom did most of the fo3 audio stuff, and he's a wizard.  meaning most of us are aware it's not simple but don't know all the intricacies of it.

perms:  either a full fireworks display spelling out "Puppettron Made This" anytime a user accesses my content in-game, or just give me credit somewhere.

Well I was able to get most of my music stuffs working, it was as simple as changing the media files to the ones I wanted. Unfortunately I wasn't able to add new tracks to the playlists because the GECK keeps crashing whenever I try to edit the playlists, but I'm pretty satisfied with the results at this point.
