Mods not disabling or partially disabling

Post by Amb » Wed Jun 17, 2015 1:47 pm

I have a few issues with mods either not disabling at all or only partially disabling. I had a mod installed called EWIs Rocks for New Vegas, and I kept it installed thinking it would only affect NV but it made all the rocks in the Capital Wasteland bright red, which was obviously out of place, so I disabled it. Now, the rocks up close are back to normal but the ones in the distance that haven't drawn completely are still red, and of course it looks funky.

Also I installed a body replacer and some clothing replacers a long time ago in NV, and I'm just now realizing that disabling these mods in NMM does nothing in regards to reverting back to the vanilla meshes. I installed these so long ago that I have no idea if maybe I did stupidly replace the meshes manually, but either way I also have FOMODs installed for them that don't do anything when disabled.

I guess the TL;DR of this whole thing is: somehow base files seem to have been replaced and aren't being restored by disabling mods for some reason. Is there any way to get them back?

Ok if you didn't use a mod

Ok if you didn't use a mod manager originally to install the mods, and placed them in manually, you'd have to hunt and delete every single folder that was installed by the mod by hand. (which is the whole reason to use a mod manager since they 'clean up after themselves' for uninstalling.)

Also there is a difference between disabling a mod in load order vs uninstalling the mod in your mod manager. Disabling the mods esm/esp in load order doesn't rid it from your data folder, and any assets in the folder are still there. Uninstalling removes the entire mod from your load order.

If you have mods you can't track down how to remove them, my best suggestion is uninstall all mods in your mod manager, uninstall NV from steam, delete the FalloutNV folders that remain (to purge anything that might have been manual installs that are missed) and reinstall New Vegas from scratch. That's about the only way to be sure your starting from a clean slate.

mesh/texture mods tend to

mesh/texture mods tend to place new meshes and textures into the filepath for vanilla objects.  which means they'll be in your data folder and your game regardless of whether you have the .esp enabled or not.  which means you'll need to uninstall them completely to get rid of them.

perms:  either a full fireworks display spelling out "Puppettron Made This" anytime a user accesses my content in-game, or just give me credit somewhere.
