Sometimes I get weird blackscreens when entering new areas or game runs in slowmo

Post by Postal-Dude » Sat Sep 23, 2017 9:27 pm

Now thats a issue I never faced before.

Sometimes when I enter new areas the screen is black for like 10 seconds but the game seems to actually run, I hear sounds and everything. After the 10 seconds everything looks normal again. Same or similar does happen that sometimes I dont have a blackscreen but slowmo similar to the bullettime effect of PN for like 5 seconds.

I dont even know what to think it is. It also does "only" happen like all 10 level transitions. Heres my installed mods and load order from MO. Feel free to point out any ideas or if you see issues with my load order.

I've run into a similar issue

Post by jlf65 » Sat Sep 23, 2017 11:20 pm

I've run into a similar issue that was due to low memory - probably the game having to take a while to swap resources. Once I switched to 64-bit Windows and starting using the 4GB patch, that went away. Might not be your issue, but since you didn't mention anything about your system, I thought I might mention it. If you aren't using the 4GB patch, do so! And of course, there's also using NVAC and NVSR... both really improve the stability of the game.

I have a 64bit system aswell

Post by Postal-Dude » Sun Sep 24, 2017 7:53 am

I have a 64bit system aswell as fitting hardware. (i7 6700K, 16GB Ram, GTX 970)

Stutter Remover and NVAC are both installed. The 4GB Patch is installed too. The new one from Roy that patches the exe instead of using an own launcher. I furthermore use some NVSE config ini values for higher heap. The Fallout.ini and prefs.ini are unmodified except setting bpreemtivelyunloadcells to 1. A purge mod is NOT installed. From my experience they do more worse than good to the game.

I actually did reach the 4GB at some point and got a info that I ran out of memory. At least when I had NMC installed. I removed NMCs texture pack now and I stay below 4GB plus my FPS got a boost. I actually do like the vanilla look of the textures, lol. I always installed NMC as a base before. Well, maybe the issue is simply my huge modded game. I modded everything to the max possible I guess. There are many huge mods in my games like PN, AWOP, WMX, EVE, Impact, Blind, EXE, NVR3 and the hell knows. I also wanted to install NVEC but decided to leave it away and maybe play a new game playthrough without PN or AWOP later. I am also waiting for TTW3 and New California.

Wouldnt mind a 64Bit exe for the game once but guess this never happens, right? Unless the devs make a remaster but very very unlikely. Not like the engine could handle it. Beside, NVSE and everything would have to be rewritten. What a hassle this is we already see with Skyrim Special Edition...

Okay, thanks for all the system info. Looks like you have that covered. Looking through the list of mods, you have YUP in there. YUP should be replaced by TTWFixes. You also have Project Nevada, but I don't see the TTW patch in there. Always check for TTW patches for NV mods (like WMX, EVE, AWOP, etc), and all FO3 mods MUST be converted or that can/may cause problems. I also see the pipboy 2500 mod in there - I don't think pipboy mods work entirely with TTW.

Uhm. I dont have TTW

Post by Postal-Dude » Sun Sep 24, 2017 4:27 pm

Uhm. I dont have TTW installed. Only basic FNV.

I was able to reduce the issue a bit it seems. I switched the heap replacement of the stutter remover on and set it to 500. Seems to run smoother and with less crashes now. This slowmo bug I didn't encounter anymore but the black screen. Only for some seconds though. I guess it reduced the issue a lot.

I encountered one more issue. Sometimes my character equips two handed weapons weirdly. It looks like he is holding it in his left hand, lol. It goes away by looking around but its a bit atmosphere breaking. I guess something is borked with the animations? Does anything usually cause this? As far as I know I have no custom animations installed, unless PN changes them or any other of my mods.

Also sometimes the healthbars of the BLIND mod stay even if the person is long dead... Really annoying.

Sorry, being posted in the TTW troubleshooting forum, and seeing as the mod list has no formatting, I plain didn't notice. My bad. There are a couple of NVSR ini files here in the first post. Seeing as you have an i7, try the newer processor one first.

As to the weapon held funny issue, the last time I saw that, I had a bad skeleton. If the animations don't match the skeleton, "weird" things happen. The universal skeleton mod "The Skeleton" in particular never worked properly for me - arms sticking out in weird directions, weapons pointed the wrong way and funny reloads, etc.

OH! Now that you mention that

Post by Postal-Dude » Sun Sep 24, 2017 9:01 pm

OH! Now that you mention that with the skeleton. I installed some for the Vanessa follower mod...

https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/45229/?

Does my body use this too then? I dont have BNB installed, dont like the mod so I just use the skeleton since its a requirement for the Vanessa mod. However, it says it only avoids a glitch... I might try it without it installed.

I uninstalled quite a few mods like Flora Overhaul, Interiors Project, JSawyer. Simply felt like I can do without them and actually I noticed more performance, especially after Flora Overhaul is away. Why is that mod always such a pain? Had also problems in TTW with it. The few trees more are not worth lower performance and lags. JSawyer felt mostly redundant with Project Nevada and sometimes it felt like they conflict and override each other even though I have the patch installed. But I am not wondered. They mostly change the same things anyway. So I uninstalled this too safely with the ingame uninstaller. Everything seems to run so much better now.

And I installed JIPs Companion mod. I hope to eliminate the companion bugs like that. Often my companions disappear and DONT come back. Even when I use the console to move them to me. I first have to disable and enable their entity before they appear back. Sometimes they even spawn INSIDE me when I change cells... Also a pain in the ass. Hope this problem is gone now with JIPs Companion mod and some other mods removed.

I still have to test my new build now but seems to be a major improvement.

The same skeleton is used for

Post by jlf65 » Mon Sep 25, 2017 12:44 am

The same skeleton is used for male and female by  default, so that could definitely be the source of the animation problems. The last time I installed BnB, I also tried that same mod since it claims to be a better BnB skeleton, but wound up going back the default skeleton bundled with the BnB body. If the Vanessa mod requires such a skeleton, try the one in the BnB main archive, not one those "compatibility" skeletons.

Mods that increase grass/weeds/small bushes tend to sap the performance the most. In Fallout (3/NV) I miss the Skyrim mod, Grass on Steroids, which gives you more/better grass with less performance drop. Wish there was a Fallout version of that.

The vanilla companion system has all kinds of bugs - places you shouldn't take companions, places where you have to FIRE your companions before going (Vault 22 in particular). Your experience there is common - I had the same problems, myself. You'll probably do better with the JIP companion mod.

Well, the companion

Post by Postal-Dude » Mon Sep 25, 2017 12:05 pm

Well, the companion disappearing and stucking inside of me still is a issue sadly which I couldn't resolve yet.

I also looked for a mod to fix it but there doesn't seem to be anything.

I just noticed Veronica completely stopping to move when she was knocked out and stood up after a fight. She stopped following me completely, even into other cells and none of the companion options beside of sending her away fixes it. I usually just use disable and enable on her and its working fine again. This really is a nuisance though. I don't think it was that bad in Vanilla NV. Some mod must be messing with their AI or behaviour in a negative way. Its definitely not JIPs Companion Mod.
