MO Question

Post by Royhr » Sun Apr 05, 2015 12:48 pm

OK I know that this is generally a site for discussing only TTW issues but since technically I am running TTW I figured it would be ok.

Well I decided to give MO a shot and so far I'm not too happy whatsoever. Things that are giving me issues are as follows...

First I cannot get the game to run by launching FNV4GB thru MO. It never gets to the final startup/main screen before it blows you out. Now I know it isn't a mod issue because this a brand new clean install with not one mod added. Just the regular game ESMs you get when you activate the TTW Fmod and of course with FNV4GB added. Also nvse launched thru MO doesn't work either. You get the same result. However if you directly launch either 4GB or nvse from the FONV folder itself the game loads ok. So I know it is probably something related to using MO but I spent a good amount of time searching around looking for suggestions but the couple I found didn't work like modifying the 4GB executables' argument with -laaexe .\FalloutMO.exe like instructed. But again no change. Hopefully somebody has a workable recommendation or else I'll just can MO and go back to FOMM.

The second issue I notice is that when the game does fail to start and quits that when I go back into MO I have to make sure that my load order hasn't changed. Doesn't do it all the time but on a few occasions it got messed up. What's up with that? Is that just something that happens and you just have to live with it?

Edit: OK going back and messing with it a bit I see a way that you can lock your load order so maybe that's the only way to stop this?

Finally, why is it that when you run FNVEdit thru MO (this does work ok btw) that after you quit FNVEdit and go back into MO you get an overwrite error related to FNVEdit. Is there a way to stop that from occurring every time or is it just something that again you just have to live with?

OS is Windows 8.1

MO version is 1.3.3

Overwrite happens even if I just open FNVEdit and and then quit without doing a thing. Also backup is not selected. I go to MO and there will be a folder called FNVEdit Backups but the folder is empty. So I just delete it. But I would think that it shouldn't be there at all if I didn't edit anything in FNVEdit and didn't select to do a backup. Or maybe it's just something that happens anyway.

Sure would like to resolve the issue of not being able to load the game with 4GB thru MO. I have been going thru the youtube videos that Gopher has out there and it is a pretty neat mod manager.

Well I went back and downloaded the 1.2.8 version after reading there closer, especially in comments, where a few people said they were having issues different kinds of issues with 1.3.3. So since it is actually beta I'm going to give 1.2.8 try and see what happens. Should have taken a better notice to the fact it was beta.. I'll also check the things you suggested if I still have an issue. I'll report back one way or the other. And btw thanks for the assistance...

Well installed and setup 1.2.8. I get the same thing. Gets to maybe the third load screen and quits for both 4GB as well as nvse.

I checked FNVEdit. I loaded it thru MO, quit without doing anything and with the backup not selected and I still got the overwrite error with an empty FNVEdit folder....

Well for the fun of it I decided to try to start the game thru MO using New Vegas as well as the Fallout launcher and they both do exactly the same thing. They get to the third load screen and then it quits. So why am I having such an issue with this? Again I can start ok using the 4gb or nvse directly out of the game's folder.

Go to the Archives tab and un-check 'Have MO manage archives'. Let the game engine manage that. That feature is fine for Skyrim but not for fallout. I've been using 1.29 for quite a while for FNV and it's fine (with FNV4G). Haven't gotten around to checking the new one.

What I meant by the third load is the third screen you see when loading the game. It's right before the main menu screen shows up.

Ok I went into the archives tab and deselected "have MO manage archives". I get the same result..... You say you have been running fine for FONV using MO? How about TTW?

No I'm definitely not missing

Post by Royhr » Mon Apr 06, 2015 12:17 am

No I'm definitely not missing any masters. The game is a clean install with no mods. The only files are the original FONV esms and the masters loaded by the TTW install. And they are in the correct load order. Now the only thing I'm thinking is that the FO3 esms and TTW esm do have BSAs. Do I maybe need to unpack those to run with MO? I know you said that Gopher covers this process on one of his videos but I can't seem to find it. The ones that I've watched so far didn't cover doing that.

You mentioned the INIs? What edits need to be done? And I know it will be the INIs in the MO folder. But I don't know what to edit. Is there someplace that gives me that info?

Ok after changing the ini

Post by Royhr » Mon Apr 06, 2015 3:18 am

Ok after changing the ini back to vanilla and deselecting TTW it did start up vanilla FONV ok. So maybe there is something wrong with my TTW fmod that I built. I'm installing it in FOMM right now to see if it will work from there. If not and I almost hope it won't then I'll do another build tomorrow. I sure hope the fmod is the issue.

BTW I really do appreciate all of the help so far....

Ok finally success . Problem

Post by Royhr » Mon Apr 06, 2015 4:08 am

Ok finally success yes. Problem ended not being the fmod because I was able to activate it in FOMM and load the game no problem. So after thinking a little about that I went ahead and replaced the INIs in MO with the ones from my documents folder and I was able to load the game using 4gb thru MO. Somehow, somewhere the INIs must have gotten mucked up. Really should have thought of the INIs earlier... Oh well at least I can start getting it set up with mods tomorrow... Plus I get to mess around a bit more with MO. The more I play around with it the more I really like it. But I still have a long ways to go before I'll be totally comfortable with it.

BTW Gopher's youtube videos definitely helped a lot in understanding MO better....
