Questions about ini settings

Post by TsurudaHimeko » Sun Feb 15, 2015 2:17 pm

Quote from Ewi 65

"correct is:

uGridsToLoad=11

uExterior Cell Buffer=144

(uGrids + 1)^2

So ugridstoload at 7 would have exterior cell buffer at 64."

If he is correct, I can leave interior cell buffer at 3, exterior cell buffer at 36, and grids to load at 5, so

I don't have to raise anything of them for reduced stuttering. Correct?

 Threaded Morpher - Does nothing; the game reads the value but never uses it

- Threaded Blood - Does nothing; the game never even reads this value

- Threaded Particles - Does nothing; the game reads the value but never uses it

- Models Cloned in Background - Does nothing; the game never even reads this value

- Load Files in Background - Likely safe; however, use at your own risk

- Load lip files in background - Unknown impact; use at your own risk

- Havok Threads - Does nothing; the game never even reads this value

- Grids loaded - LEAVE THIS AT 5. This needs to be an odd value (5, 7, 9, etc.) and the game has code that only works properly when this is at the default of 5. Turning this up drastically increases memory and processor use. Also, this is probably why you're crashing outdoors.

- Pre-Emptively Unload Cells - Possible cause of crashes; use at your own risk

- Unload cells on fast travel - Possible cause of crashes; use at your own risk

- Use hard drive cache - Unknown impact; use at your own risk

If they are right, it seems enabling them via New Vegas Configator seems useless.

What do you think about that info?

No I would strongly suggest

No I would strongly suggest against increasing your ugrids in fallout games, it will often break quite a few quests and is generally far less stable (it will also drastically increase the amount of work your cpu needs to do).

Your current settings are correct.

Never ever increase ugrids on a Fallout game, it WILL break the game completely.

Indeed I think it is best to leave all three values to vanilla state.

Even author of Ojo+Poco textures Tapioks recommend not to raise them

And this is quote from Tapioks;

iPreloadSizeLimit=209715200 (Default value = 26214400)

This allows more memory to be used for pre-loading purposes, and may help with stability when loading larger assets in your game. You may go higher than the value I am suggesting here, though I'm not really sure how much it will help. Please note that I am not 100% sure about how exactly these settings work; my suggestions are based on internet research and my own experience.

Is he correct? While Sesom, SRB, Queued and many people say this value does not affect performance

That setting is for the bink

Post by RoyBatty » Mon Feb 16, 2015 4:57 am

That setting is for the bink video playback buffer size according to sesom.

You should take heed of what SRB and especially Queued say, and not second guess it. Queued knows the game code itself VERY well.
