Seemingly Random Crashes

Post by Nuketastic » Sat Jun 07, 2014 5:18 pm

While playing I seem to have frequent random non-recreatable crashes when walking around (walking down by Wilhems Warf and then Crash. Restart and reload save then walk by the same place and no crash) or entering some buildings (Super Duper Mart made me crash 3 times when entering then worked with absolutely no change in how I got there and went inside). I have a feeling it might be memory, but I could be wrong.

My specs are 16 gb of ram, a 4.4 ghz proccessor, a 4 gb R9 290 graphics card, and Windows 7 premium. I have fallout New vegas loaded on a 2 tb hard drive.

I have used New Vegas Configator to set interior buffer, exterior buffer, and preload size limit to the max value. I am also using 4gb launcher, NVSE (latest version), ENB enhanced shaders, and the Nmc's fallout new vegas/3 texture pack that I have optimized. I have the fake full screen thing on already, New vegas stutter remover, both bashed and merged patches, NVAC, and Sheson's memory patch. I set the load order with loot already, but automation only gets so far.

Any help in how to prevent or at least minimize the amount of random crashes would be appreciated.

I would try disabling ENB and see if that has any effect.  But honestly I don't really have any ideas that you haven't already tried.

Okay. I'll try it and get back to you on if it works.

EDIT: So I tried it and I crash a little less, but frequently enough to be a problem. I noticed it seems to happen a lot when finding new places when the name of the location would come up. Maybe the sound effects from fallout 3 instead of FNV are causing those crashes? Also quite a few locations like gray ditch automotive repair from AWOP are freezing on entering. Maybe that is causing problems outside too?

Try running with NVAC and see if the crashes occur much less. It does sound like some buggy/corrupt items are popping up, whether that be some meshes OR some bad scripts.

Maybe its YUP. According to your LO that you posted you shouldnt have any other mods enabled unless its after TaleofTwoWastelands.esm.

Yup is sitting right after FO3.esm

Just an idea. Also the readius mod that is just going to cause you more headaches later on.

Also, the configurator is an awesome tool but is powerful enough to break the game too. Did you change the uGrids?

Good catch.  Instead of using YUP for FNV, used the merged version for TTW: http://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/ttw-fixes-official-bugfix-pack-ttw

If you are running an ENB you do not need or want fake full screen... simply ensure that your enblocal.ini has the following set:-

[WINDOW]

ForceBorderless=true

ForceBorderlessFullscreen=true

and the enb will do the work for you, however if you use the geck make sure to set both of these to false before starting it up, otherwise it will be unusable. personally I have a couple of bat files one to set the flags and one to unset them.

Yop!

I wouldn't recommend it. You should start by revert those values to default, especially if you are using ENBoost. (which is include in the last Enhanced Shaders by Tapioks)

Did you raised the "Ugridtoload" too?    If you did, it could/will cause some troubles like CTDs.

I guess it's this tool:

New Vegas Configator by "Rudolf Enberg" http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/40442/

If so, it's not so new  18 July 2011 but I believe it works great.
"I am also using 4gb launcher...... and Sheson's memory patch."
Tapioks doesn't recommend to use the 4GB loader with his last ENB preset because it could degrades your performance. He wrote this in his read me

If Sheson's memory patch and ENBoost are already in charge, it's really not recommended to use 4GB loader at the same time.

I think there's too many things that tries to manage your memory and display. Try to use only ENBoost, with or without an ENB preset and Sheson's memory patch. It should help.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"ENB enhanced shaders"
I guess you're using the very last version of Enhanced Shaders?

ENHANCED SHADERS - ENB 249 by "tapioks" http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/49882/

If so, be sure to set some proper values into enblocal.ini otherwise it could cause some of your troubles.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"and the Nmc's fallout new vegas/3 texture pack that I have optimized"
To me, you shouldn't optimize them. It could improve performance but if you did only one bad move during the process... It could brings more trouble than it will solves. Just trust your modders :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I have the fake full screen thing on already"
If you're using ENBoost, again which is include in ENB Enhanced Shaders, you don't want to use  FakeFullScreen mod anymore. ENBoost provides all you need to do this and it's highly not recommended to use them both.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"both bashed and merged patches"
You may want to use only one of them. Both are not really working the same way but they will do something very similar. Maybe someone with better information will explain this, I don't want to told you something wrong.

Zan AutoPurge Crash Protector - New Vegas Edition by "ZanGS and Luke Gevaerts" http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/49319/                                                                     (Again, be sure to read the read me)

STEP for Skyrim http://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.2.8

(Even if it's for Skyrim you'll find everything you need to setup ENBoost in the very first part of the guide. Do not add any new lines into enblocal.ini from Enhanced Shaders! You have to modify only the lines that are already there. I don't believe it will break things if you do but ENBoost for Skyrim and ENBoost for FNV are not really the same, so if you put some lines from Skyrim into FNV, it won't do anything or worse...)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you need any help to set some proper values for ENBoost, just ask. I hope this will help

Post by Nuketastic » Thu Jun 12, 2014 2:01 am

GoreMaster: I know about the readius and I know how to deal with those headaches already with the simulation and such. I also picked up YUP for TTW in the forums with the esp that affects it for TTW being farther down in the load order as per instructions.

Thermador: Which is better, the YUP for TTW or the TTW fixes? I thought TTW fixes was integrated in 1.6.3a?

Manos: As I said before, I haven't touched u-grids. I'll try setting the buffers and preload size back down to their initial values and removing the 4gb launcher and see if stability gets better. I removed the ENB present I was using and the game became relatively more stable, but if it stops crashing even more after I try these suggestions, I'll re-enable it. For the texture optimizing, I followed instructions I found on the forums specifically for a TTW texture pack. I even copied out all the _n.dds files then replaced them after. Also for the full screen thing, I am using the ENB fullscreen. Sorry everyone for lack of clarity on that point. The bashed patch is only for leveled lists and I have gone through both bashed and merged patches personally to deal with any conflicts. I have triple checked them even. Setting up ENB is nothing new to me and I actually have that S.T.E.P project pinned to my chrome bar.

Drewkey: As I said above, that's what I meant. Sorry for the lack of clarification initially.

Thank you everyone for all your support so far! You are an awesome community!
