? on TTW & UI/HUD mods

Post by DireWulvyn » Fri Feb 14, 2014 11:20 pm

Howzit goin'?

New TTW install, looking at installing UI & HUD mods compatible with TTW.

Seen various set-ups as I've been reading onsite and what works for people, so here are my choices [based on my current knowledge of mods that [I think?] alter the HUD/UI/Menus and .ini/xml stuff] ;

Project Nevada & PN Extra Options - but of course

Adv. Thermal/Nightvision - no question

Adv. Recon Rangefinder - certainly

oHUD - an immersive must

JIP  Selective Fire - conserve your ammo!

JIP CCC - War party!

Radar HUD OR Radar Mod - is one better? I like Radar HUDs transparent look.

DarnUI-NV OR MTUI - which plays with TTW better? I prefer DarnUI, covers more.

Shiloh DS Map/Icon & Pipboy mods

DC Color Map

Flashlight NVSE

AND UNI-HUD!

In there are TTW crossovers/patches, some FO3 conversions, others are for NV/versions. I've used some of these mods before in previous installs of FNV or FO3 as separate games. Have I missed something important?

My big question is are about DarnUI-NV and how well it works with the other mods and TTW. I've had difficulties with DarnUI before, but I really hate the vanilla 'console' menus large layout/font more, especially in the Pipboy interface.

NO, I will not change my Pipboy [well, maybe a retexture, camo maybe, say Pimpgirl for my ladies], I LIKE my clunky Pipboy!

Feels great when I bash somebody in the face with it.

Off Topic;

Once my modding skills are good enough, I want to 'weaponize/itemize' it, use it for attack or block [make it an unarmed attack w/ dmg. bonus or something = no unarmed/perks conflicts?], take damage [ % variables from using it as such or if you get hit in that limb?], needs repair as it wears out [Breaks/malfunctions. Don't know how that would work though, its a game interface tool, maybe mix the 'button' function pointers up a bit? No clue.Yet].

I mean C'MON, it's a chunky 2kg./5 lb. metal forearm guard, containing electronics, 200 years old when developed, a MAJOR survival tool, and it's been handed down...and down...and down...

So some advice on changing the...uh...um...menus/fonts?

I wish I remembered the distribution allowances for DarnUI, because I've made my own fomod version that does all the ini editing automatically, removing the usually largest headache for people in getting the mod working. It'd be very easy if I could just upload it here for people. Alas....

I personally use DarnUI. I like the look, it covers I think every game menu, and, well, I just like it.

Glad to see PN EO on there, of course. I would have to say that Radar Mod is the better mod (because it's mine!), though I never used the other one except to see how it looked/behaved in the interface to get ideas for my own mod. I do know that I put in an opacity/alpha setting that lets you adjust the opacity of the radar interface from full down to invisible, if you want, so there's that.

PN-EO was a no brainer, I like Radar Mod [used it, nicely done btw] but I've been so busy reading how to, I have not been reading by who, totally missed you're the author.

Used Radar Mod, but not Radar HUD, just curious about it, more about compatibility right now. Missed the opacity control you mentioned [probably messed the files up...?...newb here].

Yes. DarnUI. Get tired of wearing out/breaking my mouse wheels. Love the multiple menus coverage.

I've used DarnUI before in both FO3 and FNV [have an DarnUI-FO3 fomod and an DarnUI-NV manual .zip], got copy of the NV .ini script font insert, and have done basic manual editing of the .ini files before [ie; simple tweaks, multi-core opt., DarnUI font].

No distribution allowances though...nerf...

Do  I activate/edit for DarnUI before or after UNI-HUD? [ which is always suppose to be last, but in this case do I DarnUI - UNI-HUD... or... UNI-HUD then DarnUI? ].

What's the/is there a best activation order of HUD mods once the're installed into FOMM, before doing the above?

[For mods not integrated into UNI-HUD that is. I don't think I chose any, maybe oHUD - sure I saw instructions to activate before UNI-HUD with it].

PS - JIPs CCC is hidden/not on the Nexus at this posting....?..... Any ideas? Down for update, I hope?

Grib.. could you just redistribute the fomod script w/o repacking Darn's assets?

I have a very specific order for HUD installs that works for me..

PN, PNEO, MCM, PNEO-MCMfix, MCM-Patch.

Darn/MTUI

Misc HUD elements supported by UHUD.

JIP HUD elemets.

UHUD.

Actually the fomod is bit for bit the one for the FO3 version, with all the menu files replaced with the FNV stuff. :P

My installation order is: Darn, PN, MCM, lots of other things, oHUD, uHUD

I may be reading this wrong, but how is DarnUI incompatible with TTW in anyway and/or why did you create a FOMOD script/what does it do? I use the New Vegas version and have absolutely zero problems with no modifications. AFAIK, nearly all HUD mods will work with TTW.

EDIT: Scratch that, I just reread everything. All it does it automatically add the correct edits to the INI. Don't know why I didn't catch that to begin with. At the bottom of this page (FO3's DarNified UI) is DarN's distribution allowance. It doesn't look like he likes people redistributing it.

THX all

Particularly helpful to get your preferred install/activation patterns. As said, used DarN's before [both ver.], but I've messed up my menus/.ini's a couple of times, usually 'cause of overwrites.

THX again
