Converted mods crash my game on startup

Post by Datedsandwich » Thu Jul 25, 2013 11:40 pm

Hi Everyone,

I've been playing through TTW fine, no trouble as long as I'm only using New Vegas mods with it. If I install any converted FO3, the game will either crash on start up or the game will become riddled with missing meshes and then crash.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Datedsandwich

This is leagues ahead of your first post. Yay.

Things that are helpful if requesting assistance:

-Load order

-System specs (although unlikely to be relevant here)

-Any errors while installing FO3, FNV, TTW, or any of the mods you are running

-Clarification on whether you have Steam (and hence NV) in a protected folder (UAC)

With such an odd problem, I'm inclined to ask if you are using an old version (pre 2.0) of TTW.

EDIT: Also clarification on where you got FO3 and NV, whether or not FO3 was properly patched before installing, and which mods you tried that crashed your game as well as assurance that you had the pre-requisites for these mods.

Fallout New Vegas and Fallout

Post by Datedsandwich » Fri Jul 26, 2013 1:10 am

Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 are both on steam. My computer is more than capable of running this game with:

Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 850 Processor (4 CPU's) 3.3GHz

Memory: 4096mb

Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GT 640

Windows 7

No errors whilst installing new vegas, fallout 3 or TTW.

Steamapps is in C:/Program Files (x86)

I honestly have no idea what is causing this.

Oh right, load order:

Well, I cant see any of the usual suspects, but I don't use a lot of those mods, so it's hard to say. Which converted mods did you use that crashed your game?

Oh, Purge Cell Buffers causes issues with a lot of mods. It isn't going to have anything to do with your current issue, but just be aware that odd behavior of NPC's, especially during quests, will likely have something to do with it.

It could be alot of things, but if it's crashing on startup, then it's probably a load order issue. One way to try to isolate the problem, is to deactivate a single/set of mod/mods one by one and start the game each time you deactivate a set or single mod. Try starting by deactivating added weapons and armors, then try other mods. You could be just missing a master for some esp file, I can't tell since I don't use all the mods you use and there's alot of mods in that load order.

Good luck!

Post by Datedsandwich » Fri Jul 26, 2013 11:31 am

I use FNVEdit quite extensively, and it's not showing up any missing masters or other load order issues, but it may still be a load order issue.

I literally mean every single converted mod, i've tried UCO, The Regulators, A Devil's Wish, A Reasoned Arguement, and even some small patches like thepittfpscompatibility and a fix for General Chase in Anchorage. All of them cause a crash on start up or missing body meshes for npcs (they appear as floating heads, hands and feet with a big red rombus and explanation mark for a body)

I'll try removing Purge Cell Buffers.

EDIT: Oh and to clarify, it only crashes when I have a converted mod installed, otherwise it works just fine

Try Streetlights. It's either dirty mods or your game. Also, use NVidia's Tweak Guide. Also, 9752 mods don't play nicely together no matter what you do. Also, use a merged patch. Also, have you cleaned the converted mods?

Just installed Streetlights, it did not crash on start up, and from the little bit I played afterwards it doesn't seem to have affected any npcs

Never cleaned a mod, i'd assume the mod creator would do it?

Post by plumjuice » Fri Jul 26, 2013 4:04 pm

I wanted you to list all of them (as in, make a list that includes all of them and put it in a post) to determine if they all had to have the actual mod installed first, in case you hadn't, or any other commonalities that others might notice. Missing meshes then a crash could be related to a missing bsa, or indeed any number of missing loose files.

If even the anchorage fix is causing a problem, there is something very wrong. Again, are you sure you are using TTW 2.2?

What are you using FNVEdit extensively for if you aren't cleaning mods?

I use FNVEdit to check for conflicts, and I sometimes make quick edits to certain mods.

The converted mods I've tried using were:

Urban Combat Overhaul, just the esps/esms from here.

Vault 101 Revisited, resources from original mod, esp from here.

The Regulators, assets from original mod, esp from here.

A Reasoned Arguement, all from here.

A Devil's Wish, assets from original mod, with patch, and then esp from here.

Anchorage General Chase Fix

Pitt FPS fix

Definately using TTW 2.2a
