Converted mod/s do work but kill FPS

Post by Genjinaro » Tue Jul 23, 2013 4:02 pm

Even if I have them as the only mod active, the FPS suffers greatly.

Said conversions are

Martz Mutant Mod, Sharing & caring companions, MERC 2, MTC Wasteland Travellers, Mothership Crew Weapons add-on, & TSC Air support.

I've gone as far has having just one of the said items active & still, it persists.

Conversions like DC Interiors & UCO Urban Combat however, do not hamper the FPS rate.

Anyone have success with said mods or know what they might drag TTW to a crawl?

Pretty sure MMM needs a bit

Post by plumjuice » Tue Jul 23, 2013 4:37 pm

Pretty sure MMM needs a bit more than just being run through the conversion script. I think MERC (great mod) also needs some loving with the scripts. Is MSC Weapons part of the NV mod or the FO3 one?

Could you post your specs? It would also help identify the problem if you gave a load order, and stated which, if any, texture packs you use.

FPS can be influenced by any number of things; script overload (cpu), too many high rez textures on high poly meshes on too many actors at once (mostly gpu), an over 9000% fragmented hard drive making the extra resources needed for the mods take much longer to acces.

My MSC Weapons is an FO3 mod.

Post by Genjinaro » Tue Jul 23, 2013 5:53 pm

My MSC Weapons is an FO3 mod. You might be right about MMM.

Specs, not great but good enough, I was never hampered by them, unless I have 12 different back to back explosions from mini nukes or holy hand grenades. I play on low settings anyway, the only thing I ever increase is just the actor fade. Nothing else.

I don't use EMBs or high def mods, if there are any extra textures, it would be just what the mods add. No dedicated texture packs.

CPU: Intel Core2 Duo U7300 @ 1.30, Graphics: ATI Radeon 4550 Mobility Graphics, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD

Again even with just the one mod active, just as I have in the image in the 1st post, that is my load order.

I used BOSS & FOMM to get it in the correct order (see attached image below) & NMM to launch. Again just to put it out there, I only experience it with those said mods, exclusively on TTW. I do run a good 15-20 mods, normally in each individual game, maybe 8 more with TTW with & no hit to FPS. These mods I mentioned, even when by themselves like "sharing & caring", which only adds the option of recruiting almost any random NPC, will slow it to a crawl.

Just incase I goof with the creation with an old guide, I attached the guide I used to convert the mods.

Well the TTW and FO3 esms

Post by plumjuice » Tue Jul 23, 2013 6:11 pm

Well the TTW and FO3 esms should go before all other mods, as indicated on the dl page. I would suggest using Boss Userlist Manager to make some custom Sort rules.

I asked about the MSC Weapons mod because MSC itself I think needs some geck love.

MMUE is also incompatible with TTW. Having it disabled might not be enough. I would uninstall it.

Anyway, unless that gfx card is a 256 (and even then), I think you have a cpu bottleneck. Pretty sure none of bethesda's games, ever, have been optimized for multi core systems. There are some ini tweaks you can make that might help, but even then 2x1.3 is a little low.

I'll go ahead & uninstall

Post by Genjinaro » Tue Jul 23, 2013 6:41 pm

I'll go ahead & uninstall MMUE & its related mods.

From day one I've applied the .ini tweaks & the multi-core fix. Even applied a Large address awareness tweak to both games.

But again, many mods into Fallout 3 & NV, I haven't had it choke, ever. Even TTW is fine, as long as I avoid those specific converted mods. Mods like DC Interiors, Mothership Zeta Crew, Alton IL, Urban Combat within TTW all run well on my system.

I have similar specs to you

Post by plumjuice » Tue Jul 23, 2013 6:58 pm

I have similar specs to you (i posted them somewhere around the forum recently) but the main difference is I have 4gb of ram but a 2x2.1 cpu, and my bottleneck is my 512 gfx card and bad ventilation. I have to have everything on super low or i cant get above 10fps.

I forgot to ask, but when you say fps suffers greatly, are we talking 30->10 or more like 60->40?

You should use TTW interiors. Chuck is a total boss.

As for the others, my money is on fose to nvse script issues clogging up the cpu. Did you open each mod in the geck and recompile each of the scripts?

About MMM, someone was doing a proper conversion of it. Gribble or Sesom. Probably Sesom.
