Adding Vendor Chests to FO3 Vendors

Post by th1nk » Fri Sep 04, 2015 7:41 am

Having a little problem, I mentioned it in chat but now I can't get that to load, and it's pretty quiet right now, so I figure I'll post a thread - I'm trying to add a unique weapon to Knight Captain Durga's merchant inventory and seeing as hers refreshes, the best way to do this seems like adding a new container and setting her as the owner. However, after doing so, trying a bunch of different approaches, she still won't stock it.

I don't see a difference between my container/ref and those added by say, GRA, I placed the container in the same cell as the vendor, but also tried the vendorchest/nvvendorchest cells. Each time I've waited until the vendor has restocked, trying outside and inside the cell - no item. Is there some trick to this that I'm missing?

I've used a clean save and all that to test - no dice. The chest is there in game, ownership is correct, contents are there, but the vendor won't list those items for sale.

Thing is, I can get Fitz at the Grub n' Gulp to stock a new chest just fine by putting it underneath him - and the same item if I set him able to sell weapons. Durga, though, with the same chest, everything ticked, chest underneath her? No dice.

I've attached an example .esm, items are Testing 10mm and Tasty Testing Steak. Vendor Chests for Fitz are underneath him and in NVVendorChests, for Durga they're underneath her, in NVVendorChests and VendorChests. Both are set to sell weapons and food if they weren't already. What am I doing wrong? Is there something special I have to do for FO3 vendors?

It's weird sometimes. Better to add them to a faction via script so you aren't messing with their base form, and the faction owns the chest. Put it underneath them as usual so it's in the same cell.

She's kind of a pain in the ass. I remember having to jump through a lot of hoops to get her to recognize her PPA vendor container.  I had to do the faction thing, position it VERY carefully, and I think I still had to do another thing or two...

Oh man Gamebryo. Thanks for the pointers guys! I might download PPA and see how you did it there, deadboy.

My backup plan involves a quest script checking her merchant container for the item every so often, if it's not there then it would add it. Then that gets stopped by an onadd player script attached to the item itself. But I really don't like piling scripts onto the game when something like a container "should" work, and I've not checked that I can actually do it that way either.

Okay so the faction thing

Okay so the faction thing seems to have worked (and deadboy, it seems close positioning+factions are what you did too, I don't see anything else in there). Faction set to "allow sell" and all that.

Only complication so far is she won't sell the item that had extra data (condition) attached until I changed that - I'm going to guess this is why all the GRA items are at 100%.

Thanks guys.
