Evergreen Mills was mistakenly put as a stop on caravan route last one. I've added two alternate/additional travel options. The white line is underground rail, traveling from Evergreen MIlls Tunnel Entrance (no current tunnel anywhere) to a new exit near the exiting Pitt train tunnel. I was thinking on having it require explosives to clear rock debris, requiring Mini Nuke if you fail explosives skill check, and a couple smaller explosives if you pass skill check, using the assets WilliieSea made for Vault64.
The blue is Potomac speed boat, having stops at Whilhelm's Wharf, Small Dock, and Rivet City.

Western segment could still use some stops. I know the caravan route does travel there in vanilla along the red path, but am undecided on a stop.
I still need to look into Kahn's stop for Mojave.
EDIT: I would also make boat and rail travel optional, with MCM toggles.
Adonis: I'm really liking these ideas regarding trade routes as well as the changes you would need to make to accomplish your goals regarding this. Are these just ideas you're sharing for feedback? Or, do you already have a mod in play regarding these changes? If you're seeking feedback as to whether or not you wish to make such a mod.. Go For It! It's an excellent idea and overhaul regarding trade routes and the vendors between both wastes.
