Designing 3 mods for TTW...

Post by RipVanWinkleX » Thu May 07, 2015 7:05 pm

I have been thinking about making 3 mods for TTW for myself and later upload them this site. Though I am currently I am getting ready to move so I don't have much time to work on them at the moment, I can at least design parts of the mods. I am just posting to see your opinion on the ideas. Basically, the 3 mods that I am thinking about are just mods that will improve TTW for me and how I would want to play.

The first mod should be easy, but it's more or less to help me find my way around the GECK. It's changing the Bobble heads to give 500 or 1000 caps instead of upgrading stats or skills. The reason I want the change is because in vanilla F3, it was really hard to get high skills at only 20 levels. But now that we have 50 levels the skills doesn't mean much anymore. Granted, I can mod to level cap (or the trait) to stop at 30; but I like adventuring while still improving. I know the bobblehead rebalance mod is a option; but after reading though it I felt they may be a bit to powerful for my taste. So a flat cap gain like the snowglobes feel more for me.

The second mod is a bit more complicated, but shouldn't be too much depending on how I design it. I like having the old F3 perk at every level; that's the easy part. The hard part is balancing out the perks. I also LOVE the more perks mod, and I use the "More Perks" mod that was converted and edited by Senterpat....

I know it adds a crap load of perks and pretty much overbloats it. But I love having the options. Now, my perk mod will just be a mod of the perk mod by senterpat (So you will have to use his mod).

My idea is to break up the mods to have more ranks that will even it out. For example...

Demolition Expert perk has 3 ranks all which give you 20% more damage in explosives. Even though it was the same in F3 for every perk, I want to balance it as if you used two levels to get that 20%. So instead of 3 ranks for 20%, it's 6 ranks for 10%. Which pretty much evens it out for new vegas.

Now there are also overlooked perks due to the more perks mod. Like "The Steed" which was added in. Which gives 10% for each rank for 3 ranks. It makes, "Travel Light" perk pretty much sucky (the perk of moving 10% faster in light armor).

So what I am going to do with those types of perks is cut out the "The Steed" perk, but change the "Travel Light" to be different. Travel Light will have 3 ranks, first gives 5% bonus in light. Second gives 10% bonus in light, 5% bonus in medium. Third 15% bonus in light, 10% bonus in medium, and 5% bonus in heavy.

((EDIT: OH, and also have OP perks to be much harder to get. Like Jury Rigging at level 40 or above or something. Only because that will force the player that uses unique armor and weapons to pay caps to repair.))

Most of it will be a design challenge before I can even start to change things.

The third mod is something which is something that I really want, but I don't think I will even get to or even do. Basically, I want the auto-scalling to be better in all places of the game. I want "The Pitt" just as hard as the New Vegas DLC at levels it was never meant to have.

Anyway, those are pretty much my ideas. This isn't a promise that I will do them; but it's something that I have been thinking about. I want to at least get the perk system done for myself.

All pretty good ideas, I can

All pretty good ideas, I can see the value in changing the bobbleheads to give caps, but also money is not an issue either (I tend to approach being a millionaire at end game)... so I think I prefer how they've been rebalanced.

I prefer the perk every 2 levels, 1 perk per level was just too much and was done to offset the fact that there was a level cap of 20 (and raised to 30 with dlc). In Fallout it was 1 every 3 levels, so every 2 is right in between and pretty nice balance really and with more perks, it really fits well with being and RPG and you have to choose your build wisely, or build for a particular character.

The 3rd mod which scales everything, I'm all for that, I want the game to scale even beyond level 50. I have edited PN Extra Options to raise the cap to 95. That being said, I also want to nerf the amount of skill points you receive per level down to around 5 as a base and perks giving a couple more per level. This also would tie in nicely with the perk every 2 levels as it is. Having the wasteland level past level 30 (which is currently the cap, even in NV) would also be great, I'd like to see it get up to about 45, and if you've ever tried to kill a level 45 SM you know that's going to be one HELL of a battle let alone a Behemoth or a pack of SM's... Then there is the radscorps and deathclaws, this will give reason to have all those caps, ammo and powerful weapons.
