2 Questions

Post by KainJaeger » Sat Feb 21, 2015 12:24 pm

Greetings I'm new to TTW and very excited to start using it, as I love New Vegas and since New Vegas can't go back to FO3 anymore because of the overall superior mechanics and experience. Anyhow I have a few questions regarding TTW and modding/mods to which I found no awnser in the FAQ.

1. On the New Vegas Fallout Character Overhaul, is FCO compatible with the npc models in FO3 or does it straight up not work or does it only change the New Vegas characters?

2. I read that cleaning the dirty files with FNVEdit is bad, which I'm pretty sure, as a long time modder and player of New Vegas, it isn't bad at all. However regardless should it not be done in order to keep TTW working properly?

3. Does TTW make use of the New Vegas weapons over the FO3 onces and thus if I use Millenia's Weapon Re-texture Project guns like the Hunting Rifle will use the WRP texture in the FO3 worldspace?

EDIT* Also the same goes for E.V.E. do the mods changes also just translate to the FO3 World Space, an easier question would be any mod that changes New Vegas things like for example E.V.E.'s effects and the Energy Weapon Iron-Sights all get carried over into the FO3 World Space as well?

About question 2:

About question 2:

There is a big misunderstanding about "cleaning" mods. The word alone is misleading. First about TTW if you "clean" directly TTW files (optionals, from the installer created FO3 files) you ruin them. It's the same with the DLC's from NV and original esm.

For NV mods using with TTW the normal rules apply (not complex mods ... yes can be looked on by the moduser with the cleaning process, for complex one it's better to contact the mod author if something is detected). FO3 conversions for TTW it's pretty much the same.

"Cleaning" mods is not something that can be considered as a simple automated thing. The person who is "cleaning" should know what he/she is doing and if a "dirty" edit is needed or not. (Did I say that I hate this wording "dirty/clean" because it's misleading, but what can you do against traditions that are as old as Morrowind )

The FNVEdit Team works hard to get this process automated and user friendly but it is a Work in Progress already for a long time now (and changes constantly) and as long as not everything is decoded from Bethesda it can't and won't be perfect.

Again it's always the best to contact the mod author if a "dirty" edit has been found in a mod.

Ok, well fair enough I guess,

Ok, well fair enough I guess, it's just I finished New Vegas with 'cleaned' esm files and no issues what so ever, which I then contributed to the cleaning process as it was my second playthrough and the first one which I didn't clean had a lot of issues (like ctd's) all of which vanished on the second 'clean' playthrough.

So not 'cleaning' feels pretty counter intuitive now but I guess I'll leave everything alone if it's for the best.

I never clean the master

Post by RoyBatty » Sat Feb 21, 2015 3:20 pm

I never clean the master files, and I don't get crashes ever from them. The only time I've ever gotten a crash was because of a mod. This is only in NV though.

In Fallout 3, the game wouldn't even run for me for years because it didn't like nvidia cards/drivers very much. That had nothing to do with the files though.

Yes, Fallout NV's arsenal overrides anything in Fallout 3's. Additionally, TTW reintroduces any weapons from Fallout 3 that don't appear in NV's arsenal. This means that yes, a retexture of the hunting rifle will apply to the hunting rifle which appears in DC.

For E.V.E. related questions, I suggest you read this thread. It's a bit of a mix when it comes to large overhaul mods. Just using the NV versions with TTW most of the time causes no harm, but you may not see every feature in DC's worldspace.

for unspoken questions about popular giant mods, check the forums.  there's a bunch of conversions and patches for a lot of them.

perms:  either a full fireworks display spelling out "Puppettron Made This" anytime a user accesses my content in-game, or just give me credit somewhere.
