Obselete mods?

Post by powerpuffboysz » Sat Sep 05, 2015 9:48 pm

Does a Tale of Two Wastelands make any mods obsolete? Like weapon mod kits and iron sights in the fallout 3 portion?

Since New Vegas incorporates aiming down iron sights into gunplay, mods that add IS to guns for Fallout 3 are, like you say, obsolete. This does not mean, however that guns made for Fallout 3 won't need to be edited to be made compatible with using iron sights.

There are other examples of obsolete mods I suppose, generally what falls under whatever changes were made to the engine in New Vegas.

Additionally, there are Fallout New Vegas equivalents of popular Fallout 3 mods, so these would be used instead of converting old Fallout 3 ones.

WMK is obsoleted by the built in modding system and WMX or WME.

Another example would be features of survival mods like Fallout 3 Wanderer Edition. Hunger, Thirst, and (I think) sleep are already built into FNV's Hardcore mode, and other mods exist to fill what's left. I think some Fallout 3 Mods also included the idea of different ammo types, particularly with the dart gun, but are much easier to implement now in FNV. Finally, a lot of models/textures mods are made obsolete in the fact that Millenia's and weijesen's are, in fact, the best. There is no debate. Ever.

Fallout Wander's Edition kinda falls under this category since most of what it has is either included in the base game via Hardcore mode or is part of Project Nevada which is made by the same people.

You kinda have a point, but there are actually lots of features in FWE that aren't covered by the Hardcore mode and PN, which is why threads such as Requiem for the Fallout Wanderer Edition are made. So I wouldn't call it made obsolete by TTW/PN, but it's rather a lot of work to get those features ported.
