How to properly change music in New Vegas?

Post by Bloodfang » Fri Aug 07, 2015 4:34 pm

Hello everyone !

I've been looking at ways to add custom music for New Vegas (mainly battle music), but even replacing old files and adding a 1sec silence sound for intro & outro music didn't helped, there was a video that said it should work for NV but it doesn't !

Most of the things I found were about custom radios but not custom soundtracks. Obviously it doesn't work like Oblivion/Skyrim. Is there a specific way to do it?

I was able to make my FNV (TTW with other mods) start menu main title music 'Snake Plissken badass' by replacing the original audio file with an Escape from LA theme MP3 I have, I think it was 128kb bitrate and track length was fairly close to the original new vegas main title. I simply renamed the Escape from LA Theme MP3 track into main title, and copied it over into the correct folder (of course at first making a backup of the original main title audio file being replaced). No problems whatsoever, the different start menu music plays every time I launch TTW.

Based on this, my guess would be that any FNV music tracks could in theory simply be replaced with same bitrate and about same length MP3s, as long as the filename is exactly the same as the original game audio file had, no typos allowed.

I did the same as Decker with the intro music (Mine is the opening song from the movie "Desperado") - simple MP3 swapout.

Hey,

So it needs to be the same length as the original music? Because I tried to replace them in my /Data folder but nothing changed in game. Not even the intro/outro sounds for battles.

I don't think that the replacing track needs to be exactly the same length as the original, just in the same ballpark ought to be good enough (frex not replacing a few minute track with half an hour long track). I chose an audio track with the same bitrate just to be sure, it is slightly shorter in length than the original, and it works just fine.
