Need Mods to make fallout more solemn

Post by tact » Sat Jun 07, 2014 5:03 pm

As the title says, I'm starting a new playthrough and I'm trying to find both NV and Fo3 mods that make fallout a little less wacky, but a more solemn, desolate, and realistic wasteland. Now I already got realism mods covered, but I'd like to find mods that enrich story and make the game seem closer to something like The Road

Hmm. That's going to be a tough one. There are many things that contribute to an overall sense of desolation or bleakness which more often rests on experience than the outward appearance of something. Your own expectations and mood contributes to how you interpret events in the game sometimes overriding Bethesda's or Obsidian's own narrative intent. It could be the music which impacts you and makes the game feel solemn.

Here's a replacer for ghouls which give them a more human-like appearance. People who use it report that it makes them reflect, perhaps even solemnly reflect how ferals were once normal people too.

I use the passive creatures mods so that things like wild dogs and molerats dont attack, plus maximum respawn time in Project Nevada Extra Options to make areas more desolate, plus a music mod such as Digital Nightmare

I would recommend Delay DLC as well: http://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/delay-dlc

There are also mods that stop the people who randomly give you free stuff (if you help the town of megaton for example) but I can't find it right now...

It would be cool if someone made a "desolation overhaul" mod for TTW that incorporated that kind of stuff.

gee, the entire town of megaton pooled together to give me a bottle of dirty water, despite the fact that they have a massive purifier handy?

If you want a more realistic wasteland, then Green mods are the order of the day.

Also, Project Nevada allows you to up the brutality of combat both fought and seen tremendously. You can also reduce silly things like dismemberment, ragdoll physics and blood loss. It takes the cartoonish out of the violence pretty quick.

There's nothing that makes me feel more solemn than green, healthy trees.

Well that and a desert in the swamps of the Potomac watershed is fucking campy. Every mutation and desolation to nature is a big 'Hey at least we made some kind of mark.' It's humbling to see a green wasteland. Ever seen modern Pripiyat? The water is too radioactive to drink and still the land thrives. Nature shrugged off the worst we could do and didn't give a shit. It's very humbling, and disturbingly solem.
