I've never had any .esp with my NMC texture packs...Then again, my computer has never gotten along with NMM. I just used FOMM.

Anyway, it's the first one. Merge the NMC Directory into the New Vegas data folder. And yes, you want to overwrite (Thank god for the "Yes to All" button).

These textures should show up regardless of if you have an .esp enabled.

I've never tried the second route where you would have a data NMC directory. Don't know of anyone that has either. I would avoid the second option for now, just because I'm not familiar with it. If you want to do it that way, I'd wait for someone here to give you a hand.

let me know how it goes.

No, there isn't an .esp that comes with the NMC texture packs.

The .esp that I am referring to is the NMC.esp (and its associated NMC.bsa file) that I created using ChuckSteel's instructions in the 5th post in this thread. Sorry - I was assuming that you had done this process as well per the 6th post in this thread.

And yep, if I merge the textures directly into the Data folder (overwriting existing files), then what was the point of creating the .esp and .bsa eariler in the thread? This is the part that I am confused on.

Thanks again

Ahhh I see what chuck was

Ahhh I see what chuck was talking about now. Well, his version is a bit more advanced, clean, and can be turned on and off using the .esp you are talking about.

The way I described is a bit more simple, not so clean, and is always on. Do whichever you feel more comfortable with, but like I said, I'm not super familiar with his way. Not that his way is wrong! They'll both get the job done. I just don't know if I can walk you through his way.

But I haven't had any issues with my way in Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and now Tale of Two Wastelands.

Sorry about that whole mix up. But if you are like me, and don't have a ton of experience with editing and/or creating .esp files, then doing it the way I listed would be more like installing any other mod.

Chuck usually comes by every once in a while. Can't say when he will be back, but if you need more details on his instructions, I don't think he would mind if you messaged him.

The esp should just be an

The esp should just be an empty file whatever-you-want.esp, and to go with that you'll want whatever-you-want.bsa. I'm sure you got that step already so moving on- 248k is tiny! 1024 k in a mb, ~1000mb in a gig and you've got almost 2 gigs. Compressing when building a bsa will yield some savings, but not that much! Uncompressed it should be around the same size as the source files. In short: my educated guess is there's no way you're seeing NMC textures in game. Would guess BSAopt tripped up on the first file or two going in and never completes. If you're starting it and it's reporting done almost instantly- another hint that it's not working. Chuck can tell you more about how to get it working, as I've never actually used the non fomm version, and never had great results with the fomm version. Also, if you're using a BSA don't merge your source files as it defeats the purpose of creating the esp and bsa in the first place.

When you say don't merge the source files, do you mean don't overwrite the Fallout 3 NMC files with the New Vegas ones and use two separate BSA and esp files?

Toddbanister,

Toddbanister,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner! I've had a lot on my plate lately. I did get your PM and, fully intended on getting back to you.

I'll likely not be able to really lend you a hand until the weekend but, we can try to set up some time on sat. or sun. that we both can work on the issue. My method is a bit more complicated yes but, it does work. It wont really cut down of file size as tjmidnight has pointed out but, your game will be clean and, if you want or need to turn off NMC it can be done with a simple click and, not trying to remove all the hundreds of meshes and, textures.

I thought I was clear but, I'm not really the best at writing so I may just have thought I was clear.

Let me know what your weekend looks like. I'm mostly free but, I will not be getting up at 6:00 am (GMT -6) to work on this!

If you install team viewer I can walk you through the process and, show you every step for future mods or updates.

Edit: I know NMC a bit, he allowed me to edit his textures to work with NVInteriors, I'll send him a PM and ask if he will allow me to do a .esp, .bsa version of both of his mods that I will give to him in exchange for the right to release a TTW .esp, .esm version too.

I attempted this myself, but unfortunately, it the BSAopt had trouble copying a few of the files. I'm not sure why and I tried retrying for those files but It kept on failing as far as I could tell. I'm sticking with extracting the files to my game folder for now, but if you show Toddbanister how to do it successfully, please post on this topic again, letting me know the specifics of how you did it.

Well I now have a PM out to NMC, He did let me edit some of his textures for NVInt and, I've offered to set up all of his texture packs to use BSA's. With luck he will let me release or build and, he can release a TTW version.

alegendv1, I can also try to help you this weekend. I wish I could just send you guys my version but, that would be stealing form NMC and, I respect him to much to do that.

Still hoping to hear back

Post by chucksteel » Thu Feb 28, 2013 3:31 am

Still hoping to hear back from NMC but, in the mean time I will also make a picture guide with step by step instructions on how to create a NMC.esp and, then pack up the files into a .BSA. I will only do it for the small packs but, the process will be the same for all. I just don't want to have to take the time to download and, run through all the steps for three versions of the same mod.

I will start on this over the weekend, As offered before I'm willing to try to help you guys too even before I finish the Picture Tutorial.
