Bethesda is making millions

Post by sesom » Fri Dec 12, 2014 8:38 pm

Bethesda is making millions of PC copies of the game that are sold because of mods. So it is a symbiotic relationship between nexus and Bethesda their Steam Workshop experiment ended badly. So...

Nexus & Bethesda isn't mad at TTW we aren't mad at Nexus/Bethesda. Bethesdas policy is not to allow any content of other games (if Bethesda or not) released in mods (when the publisher doesn't explicitly allow it Stalker is a positive example here).

TTW fulfills this requirement.

That TTW isn't on Nexus has the reason that other modmaker could think they can now freely use FO3 assets on Nexus for NV because of the simple existence of TTW. Yeah its not intelligent of them but it will happen (it already does constantly but not because of TTW).

Why does it really matter if it is here or on the Nexus?  Actually, I think the developers like it here because they get to set the boundaries and not have to follow someone else's.   If you are worried about mod development, learn to mod or find some other way to contribute.  But if you really want to know, most of hard core dedicated modders know about TTW and prefer to move on to Skyrim's engine, remain solely in Fallout 3 or FNV Nexus, or have moved on until maybe Fallout 4 is released.

Why are we even discussing it? Even if Nexus called tomorrow and was like "Hey you guys - come on back!" We'd be like "Nah, We're cool." No offense to the Nexus community but this is our community. It's built around our mod and thanks to the way we do things people are involved here that maybe wouldn't be there. So in short: yeah, we like it here. If you're gonna release TTW mods on Nexus follow the rules listed above. Otherwise it could create issues for everybody.

Thanks.

Yeah that's what I forgot in my answer. It's actually easier to work on TTW in a more focused community. Having it here is a big advantage.

I only brought it up because the Nexus is very... secretive about it. There is no part of the Nexus terms of service or rules that clearly states not to discuss TTW, but if you link to the site without knowing it is wrong, they ban you. It seems that they are a little overzealous and rude about TTW, and keep people from finding out about it.

Actually many TTW team members are friends with nexus people, and if the nexus would really want to be rude and "hide" the existence of TTW then they wouldn't even allow any mod for TTW.

Again I mention that we are working in a grey area here, and I understand the position of nexus to not give the image that support anything that is "shady", after all they are way more popular and known, which grants them the eye of the big game companies, also they have a lot more to lose than we do, we could get a cease and desist from Beth, so we would end up with having to stop TTW and little more since we are broke... but the nexus could be put in a big court of law process that could end up with it being shutdown and that would be a big hit on the business that is the nexus.

Just my opinion here.

I think I will keep my opinion of the Nexus to myself and let this discussion drop. I know that most of the Nexus people are nice guys, and should not let my personal experience with certain moderators lead me to judge them.

Yeah lets keep the axe grinding to a minimum. I'm closing this thread, it was only supposed to be here as a notification.
