Mods that increase stability and performance in TTW

Post by StarletHologram » Fri Mar 08, 2013 1:31 am

In my opinion the main advantage of TTW is the stability it provides to both FO3 and FNV. For almost two years and before TTW appeared, I searched for something that could inject stability to the Vanilla game and increase performance.  The following list is what I´ve found. When I finally got TTW the game worked like a charm...but I couldn't help it and started using tons of mods from both games, resulting in occasional CTD´s and less performance...perhaps Mod incompatibilities or something. Anyway, every bit of additional performance and stability always helps, and that's why I decided to start this thread. If you guys know about something else that could help and it's not mentioned, please post it, if it's possible with a link.

This mod it's basically a tweaked INI file that has all features set in a way to get the maximum performance. It has 4 alternatives according to the graphics configuration you're using (LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH, ULTRA).

Blackout ENB

An ENB Shadder that really improves game visual interface and performance. Besides, the lightning on interiors will have a great boost regarding to inmersion.

Operation Fixed Terrain v3

This mod solves a lot of bugs in the Vanilla game; as far as I remember, it includes the Invisible Wall Remover mod, allowing the game to work with less things to load. The difference when you use this mod is very notorius. Not sure if NVEC already includes this feature, but It's working for me.

Optimizer Textures

It's a "most have". Not sure if you guys are in love with retexture mods like NMC, MUCHO or POCO BUENO, but this baby can help your game to handle those textures. If you reduce the size of the DDS files, the game uses less VRAM memory. Of course you get a loss in the visual interface, but if you use an ENB shadder like Blackout ENB or MIdhrastic ENB you won't notice the difference. Of course, your game will get a boost in performance!.

Almost every time I activate

Post by ElvenScoundrel » Fri Mar 08, 2013 7:23 am

Almost every time I activate NVEC Reduce CTD all I get are tons of crashes and odd bugs, like Capital Wasteland NPCs finding me NO MATTER WHERE I AM and initating dialogue as soon as they meet up with me. I had to disable it because it is disrupting, sadly. I kept crashing heading to the Gun Runners in NV, and upon disabling NVEC Reduce CTD I didn't get any more crashes. Not sure how NVEC Bugfixes work though, I have it on my .esp list but it's not activated.

NVEC and MMUE both just ruin

NVEC and MMUE both just ruin TTW. They deleted a lot of records that were unused in FNV, but that TTW now relies on.

@Elvenscoundrel and @JaxFirehart, both of you are right. NVEC + Mission Mojave causes problems with TTW. I missed this one in the list. Thanks for pointing it out.

NVEC its formed by some parts:

NVEC Reduce CTD (that disables certain FO3 records, it's like a venom for TTW).

NVEC Bugfixes, a collection of bugfix mods that corrects a lot of stuff in vanilla FNV.

 NVEC Enhancements, a collection of mods that tried to improve parts of the vanilla game and make it how it should be from the beginning.

 I tried the three parts together (NVEC Complete) and separated; the only one that worked for me was NVEC bugfixes, and only version 2.8, since ver 2.9 to 3.3d have Mission Mojave included, and I didn't get Mission Mojave to work with TTW without constant crashes. In their mod page they mentioned Tale of Two Wasteland users use NVEC Enhancements. Not sure which part would be the most compatible with TTW, so... What's your take on it?. For the moment I'm erasing NVEC from the list.

I myself wonder what the mod

Post by ElvenScoundrel » Fri Mar 08, 2013 7:05 pm

I myself wonder what the mod author said about us TTW bros using NVEC Enhancements. I suppose it means we CAN'T use Bugfixes or Reduce CTD, so we can only use Enhancements, which doesn't really do what the other 2 modules do. Wither way, I suppose the FO3 version of NVEC could work well, though I've yet to download it and install it. I just disabled both NVECs and I don't run any bugfix mod at all. TTW adds a semblance of stability, so NVEC Reduce CTD is not very well needed.

As Jax said, you can't use

As Jax said, you can't use MMUE or NVEC Complete/Bugfixes/Reduce CTD because they remove leftover FO3 references in FNV that TTW uses.

For NVEC, you CAN use NVEC Ehancements, which is the portion of NVEC that adds all of the content, but doesn't contain any bugfixes. Only some of NVEC Enhancement's features will work in DC, but all should work in the Mojave. There is an addon to NVEC called the NVEC Mod Expansion which brings the features of Enhancments (such as working chem sets, bottling water, lootable cars, etc) to other mods (such as AWOP or NVInteriors), but so far it hasn't been done for TTW, and I don't know if Timeburn plans on doing so.

I have talked with Tommy (Hairylegs222, the NVEC author) about doing an "alternate start" for NVEC for TTW, which would trigger all the things NVEC does at chargen when you start in DC, but that probably won't go much further without more people visiting the NVEC page and talking about it there. It took a bit just for him to get to talk about TTW, as there was some bad blood between him and a former TTW dev. Now that he knows the former dev is in no way associated with TTW, and hasn't been for a long time, he is more open to community questions and ideas regarding NVEC and TTW, but keep in mind that he has a LOT of people wanting him to focus solely on NVEC for FNV. Without more TTW users visiting his page, testing his work and endorsing (not that he needs em, I think NVEC has 1500 endorsements or so, which puts him in the top 30 of all time), I don't think I can talk him into spending time on a TTW version just to make me happy. :P

Is it possible to use MMUE Plus with TTW in place of MMUE?

@Computerrock1

MMUE is a collection of bug fixes only.

MMUE+ is a collection of content mods that are merged into a smaller package to reduce load order.

They aren't really the same thing at all, though I believe that MMUE+ does require MMUE to run (I might be wrong on that, as I currently use NVEC instead of MMUE).

@JaxFireheart

Sir, you just made my day. Not having all of NVEC's features in TTW has been the single thing that keeps bringing me back to playing FNV as opposed to a strict TTW setup. You freaking rock! (Oh, and MMUE is also a great idea. That will give us the bug fixes that work for TTW without those that don't.)

Will you also be doing a TTW version of FO3 bug fix compilations, like the Unofficial Fallout Patch?

I dont plan on updating Uf3P

Post by JaxFirehart » Wed Apr 03, 2013 1:12 am

I dont plan on updating Uf3P only because a lot of the bugs were engine related and the engine changed between FO3 and FNV. I guess it can't hurt to wander through the file and see if I can puzzle out what they were trying to do and determine if it needs to be patched for TTW. Point is, FO3 bugs will have to be fixed as they are encountered.
