Bread mod

Post by LT Albrecht » Sun Sep 08, 2013 12:45 pm

So, humans have been making bread for thousands of years, it's reasonably easy, flour keeps for ages and it's reasonably decent for making sure you don't die of hunger. Why then has humanity forgotten how to make it?! Nobody in the DC metropolitan area or the entire state of Nevada appears to remember that bread exists, which is crazy. It's simple to make, even if it's just a flatbread or something, rather than a more familiar loaf. Simple, basic food that'll stop the player dropping dead from hunger. Therefore I propose adding 2 items and 3 campfire recipes:

Items:

  • Bread

  • FlatBread

Recipes:

  • Maize -> Flour

  • Bake Flatbread

  • Bake Bread

That's all, folks. Well, apart from the need for bread meshes. Anyone got any spare?

There is actually yeast

There is actually yeast already in game, and water is a necessary component as well. Sugar for rising breads. I admit I know more about baking rising bread than flat bread...

Doesn't the expanded cooking

Post by TrickyVein » Sun Sep 08, 2013 3:34 pm

Doesn't the expanded cooking options include bread as a recipe?

Wheat/grain spoils pretty easily if it's not kept dry. Building the storage space for harvesting seeds is paramount, and I don't think there's any evidence on the E. coast that people are engaged in agriculture, at least not cultivating grains. As far as we can tell it seems like everyone either hunts/scavenges or practices cannibalism. The PL tribals cultivated Punga Fruit, it looks like but nothing of the sort of high-protein grain which sustains civilizations.

People should definitely be baking bread in the Mojave, though.

And there are wild strains of yeast. It grows on the grain itself. Sugar is food for it, which is why it's added to bread if you want it to rise more quickly than naturally-leavened bread. Flat-bread is generally just unleavened bread, i.e. flour + water without a significant addition of yeast.

Shush, Tricky. We need more

Post by Gribbleshnibit8 » Sun Sep 08, 2013 9:35 pm

Shush, Tricky. We need more food, and bread would give a nice addition in allowing to make sandwiches and stuff. Might not make food better, but makes it more appetizing, which increases.... idk something. I thought about this waaaay back, to have Ketchup added, and eating ketchup and then eating food would make the food provide more health.

This adds Potato bread and many other foods. But yea, with flour and yeast in game there should be bread. And Gribs I agree Ketchup would be great too. Chuck added Ketchup and Mustard statics to his Interiors we just need them as ingredients for sandwiches. Brahmin steak sandwich yes

Mayonaise? If we have Ketchup

Post by Sandloon » Thu Sep 12, 2013 12:15 pm

Mayonaise? If we have Ketchup, Mustard, Bread and Brahmin Steaks, we need Mayo to keep the bread from getting soggy from the fat in the Brahmin steaks...

But I don't like mayo or

But I don't like mayo or mustard, so adding them to food would make it gross cheeky

Also, we need more recipes for low survival characters. I'm thinking a series of simple recipes that combine two to three ingredients to make a multiple output item.

All of these would be 2-3 outputs that are combined about half again the total food value of the two inputs.

  1. Molerat & Cheese: 1x Blamco Mac and Cheese and 1x Molerat meat

  2. Radroach & Cram: 1x Cram and 1x Radroach Meat

I had more but can't think of them now and have to get to work.
