Lets Add Some Age to That Realism

Post by Cannibal_Kon » Wed Jan 08, 2014 5:22 am

Okay this is my second time attempting this post since I had it perfect and went to post it as my internet went out. So this may seem a little summed up because I forgot to copy my paragraphs before sending.

I was wondering if anyone would want to make a mod that modifies FO3 companions when you take the time jump, an example I use is that Star Paladin Cross mentions that she escorted James to the Vault approximately 19 years ago (you weren't one by this point but pretty close I think). Add on the 8(?) years you spend doing things then you end up with 27 years of experience at least for someone who was probably in their early twenties when they escorted James. That's definitely some grey hairs and wrinkles added as well as a suggestion I saw by another member whose name I forgot thought Butch might grow a goatee or look good with one(which I wholly agree with.) Then there's Jericho who also mentioned being over 30 if I remember(may be completely wrong) and another 8 years would add a few wrinkles.

Of course I'm only requesting this kind of mod as most people might not like changing how their companions look to go along with how the mod works. I would also not say that you'd have to use any of my/other people's ideas and just make them older would be fine. If anyone agrees with me I'd love to hear it.

Again, I apologize with how this came out the second time I was just frustrated that I forgot to copy the topic before posting and lost all of it so I made this summed up version. Thank you for your time and I hope you can help either make the mod or confirm/deny things I'm not so sure about.

P.S. In the middle of copying this second try I accidentally made the whole thing a link and had to go into Notepad and edit it AGAIN to take out the plus' and Html sorting for characters. If I missed one please inform me!

Over an amount of time we've actually had several people talk about making a mod similar to this. I wonder what happened to them.

The Wiki (www.fallout.wikia

The Wiki (www.fallout.wikia.com) lists all the ages of characters. Like Sarah is 27, Reilly is 30, Lucy is 25.

You mentioned Star Paladin Cross, she is listed as a cyborg and her date of birth is not listed, although I believe your age estimate is probably very close.

So if you "aged" any of the above (except SPC) they'd appear similar to Evan King (55) or Manya is 64. Don't know if any of this helps at all, I do agree with your idea and think it would be a great addition.

If life is but a test, where's the damn answer key?!?!?

TJ: I assumed so but when I checked the mod releases and only found a revamp that I never got working I thought maybe attempting to spur some people on might help.

paragonskeep: Thanks for the information! I should have probably looked there first!

I wonder what would happen to Dogmeat after he aged all those years, i doubt he'd be as strong as before, and maybe his time to rest in peace is actually coming soon.

I can totally picture a quest where as you progress through FNV main quest Dogmeat gets weaker and you have to put him down or use his brain to fix Rex, you'd still have to put him down to get his brain. That would be a sad quest and adds a lot of emotion to the game.

I have actually tried to

Post by thermador » Fri Jan 10, 2014 4:02 pm

I have actually tried to create a mod for this.  It's a lot more difficult than it looks.

At first, I just created a script that uses the AgeRace command on every NPC in Fallout 3, bumping them up one age level.  (I also had to link a few ages together for each race that arn't linked by default, so the NPC's had somewhere to "age into").  This script was run when the player first travelled to New Vegas.

This would work perfectly except for one thing - the problem with AgeRace is that it resets the NPC's hair style to default - everyone goes bald.  And as far as I know, there is no way to set an NPC's hairstyle by script.  If there is, this mod is actually super easy to create.

If you can't do that, however, you need to create a copy of every NPC in Fallout 3, then disable the original NPC and enable the new, older NPC via script.  OK, sure you can do it, but then you've got a billion ref errors for everything that points to the old NPC - dialogue won't work, scripts won't work etc.

Maybe someone else would have ideas on how to actually pull this off, but I gave up.

EDIT: reading the documentation for AgeRace again, I may have a workaround.  I hope I still have that ESP file...

Thermador, I say you give it a shot! I'd love to see it if it's possible!

did you have to agerace

Post by Puppettron » Sun Jan 12, 2014 5:00 am

did you have to agerace everyone individually or was there a shortcut to do batches or the whole thing?

perms:  either a full fireworks display spelling out "Puppettron Made This" anytime a user accesses my content in-game, or just give me credit somewhere.
