[Request and Rally] Random Event Controller Mod

Post by charwo » Mon Apr 07, 2014 2:53 am

I am straightforwardly asking for any who would like this mod idea to comment in support.

The way I see RPGs, I'm not the character, not at all. I'm more of an editor/guardian angel/the little voice inside us all. And as a player in a CRPG, I have the power to play the designers' vision as I choose, which again, makes me the editor of an RPG story, not merely a passive audience. So I'd like more of that editorial control in my life.

I would like a program where I the player can summon random events to play out in the order I choose. Wether or not I'd have to go to a spawn area or not, if I feel my character would do well to meet Uncle Leo just after leaving the Vault, I'd like to be able to arrange the meeting. Or that I can always make sure my characters will see the raider initiation in front of the Super Duper Mart, or just happen to stumble upon the dead Chinese spy and his wonderful sword. Or even just having one of the truly repeatable events happen again and again. They can be easy to miss otherwise.

If possible I'd like it in Mod Configuration Menu, with options to see a map with all the spawn points and a setting to reset all of the spawn points so that new random events can happen in old spaces (when a new event occurring in the same place would be plausible).

I'm hoping others will take interest, so we can all build a better story through the power of player caused Narrative Causality! Thank you.

So you are suggesting to make random events fixed? Sorry not interested. I like the randomness and it's something I miss badly in NV (even FO1/FO2/Tactics had them).

Random events were great, and NV sorely needed them.

I don't even want to think

I don't even want to think about the mess that trying to rig the random encounters to be wherever you want them would cause. That system is complex enough as is.

It's not what you wanted, but maybe could help a little bit:

Random Encounters: Adds a tracking quest to the encounters so you get a map marker named for each encounter.

Wasteland Encounters: Adds apparently more dynamic randomness to encounters by making new types that can occur anywhere in the wasteland. This isn't what you asked for, but does relate to your question sort of, so I figured I'd put it here for others to see, too.

Oh, I'm not saying the random

Oh, I'm not saying the random events should be fixed. Just...being able to summon them, sorta like how you can change the weather with Nevada Skies.

I mean, it makes sense to wait for the random guy from Greyditch to come running at you before venturing into Those! And really, while I like random events in that their not in fixed locations, there are times I really want to force the hand. I've never EVER been able to get Uncle Leo to show up past the first encounter. It's very rare to find the Oasis merchant and the Oasis raider I've seen all but once, the Nuka Cola salesmen, once.

It's extremely frustrating to need an event to happen for narrative purposes and it not happening again and again and again.

Those! is not a random thing,

Those! is not a random thing, it's triggered to happen if you venture within a certain area. Bryan runs around and seeks the player in a radius I think.

Anyway, I guess just don't rely on random things for your narative?

I have tried it and I don't trust the scripting.
