XRE Flyable Vertibirds: TTW Locations

Post by Pokepunch » Sat Jul 27, 2013 2:17 pm

Hello, I'm sure many of you know about or have used the mod XRE Flyable Vertibirds. If not, the mod does what it says it does; it lets you fly Vertibirds. It also adds lots of platforms that you can land on and use to refuel, repair, buy ammo for the guns ect. What I would love is if there was platforms in the Capital Wasteland and a Vertibird to fly so that this mod has some use in the Capital Wasteland. I would love to be able to fly around in DC and think it would be amazing. If somebody was to make this mod I would be grateful.

Here is a link to the mod: CLICK ME

EDIT: I have little to no experience with the GECK, so i'm wondering if it would be possible to place a platform from the mod with all the things needed into DC? If so would somebody be willing to help me do this?

UPDATE: I have managed to place a platform, upgrade stations and the Vertibird outside Megaton. I have one problem, The activator that needs to be placed at the Vertibirds doors doesn't work. I have no idea why it's not working, any help would be great.

UPDATE 2: I managed to get the activator to work and could fly around and all that good stuff, however upon crashing and reloading the save the activator does not work, restarting the game and loading a save from before I used the Vertibird does not work, I think this has something to do with a script but I have no scripting knowledge. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is really cool! I hope you can get this working, because i love the xre vertibird mod. Unfortunately i can't offer any assistance because i can barely use the GECK. Good Luck though!

One near Raven Rock, One Near

One near Raven Rock, One Near the white House, one Near NTL Guard Depot, and one near the Pentagon.

Maybe one near SatCom Array NN-03d for maintinence Purposes, otherwise there are few other areas of importance that would mandate Vertibird landing/refueling. I always hated thier placement in the Mojave. SOOO ILLOGICAL!

Also I'd be willing to give it a shot.

There are several invisible

There are several invisible activators you likely missed. I was unsucessful in getting the bird there however. What I would prefer would be to have the vertibird remain where it is, and have a trigger box on the western edge of the map, that when entered brings up a message to either go to DC or remain in the Mojave.

Two things to report based on

Post by Gribbleshnibit8 » Wed Sep 11, 2013 6:32 pm

Two things to report based on this and what has been mentioned in the chat.

As far as moving Vertibirds goes, I have successfully duplicated and test flown a vertibird from Goodsprings. Landed successfully but was unable to get out (don't know if this is my own lack of knowledge of the controls or what). I will be experimenting with a few more things based on this before I will say conclusively that moving them to DC is possible, but I'm pretty sure it will be.

On the note of CARS being mentioned in chat. Emerso was kind enough to provide a cell that has a fully set up service station that only requires a copy/paste in order to use (so far as I can tell, untested). So it just needs to be pasted to several places around the DC area to provide car services. On top of this, he built the car mod to be added onto. This makes adding new cars pretty easy, and there are several ways to do it. I will be experimenting with this later tonight as well.

So all in all, very good news. Just need to decide on places for vertibird pads (I will say military bases only, and of course one at RC just because). Car stations I will probably be placing in place of the existing service stations in the DC area, simply because they're already flat spaces that will provide the space necessary for them. If anyone has other ideas, let me know.

Now we just need someone

Post by JaxFirehart » Wed Sep 11, 2013 9:26 pm

Now we just need someone willing to remodel the tops of building so they aren't invisible. And some way to handle traveling to DC. Anyone made an "Open DC" mod? Sounds hella hard, and taxing, but would be very awesome.

Closed roof tops would be

Post by Gribbleshnibit8 » Thu Sep 12, 2013 1:01 am

Closed roof tops would be nice. Also roofs with havok. Does Downtown DC fit into the main wasteland worldspaces? I thought they cheated on those to get more room in less space.

So I found out a few things about Vertibirds. It is not possible to make a simple trigger to move the player somewhere else and have the vertibird follow. It might still be possible, but it's not simple. I'm going to assume that cars are the same way, though I haven't tested it.

However, adding new vertibirds is possible, so that's the route I'm going to go.  New platforms will be built to blend into the game as best as possible (not that mess like near Goodsprings). So military bases only pretty much. Might not even put one at RC since you've got the WHOLE DECK to land on.

EDIT: Gonna be perfectly honest. I don't want vertibirds in DC. The lack of roof tops on most every building will make it look like crap to fly around. It'll be immersion breaking just on that. On top of that, adding all those landing pads will look bad too. National Guard Depot is out. Too many missing building tops around there. Fort Independence doesn't have a roof, but the overpass in front would make a good landing point. For Constantine is small and full of raiders/robots but does have a good rooftop for a pad to be on. I didn't look past that.

I will leave the plugin I uploaded available for anyone to use. In the XRocket Test cell there is a full copy of a working vertibird. Simply ensure that you have markers set to visible, select the whole thing, and copy/past it wherever you want it to be. Have fun smiley
