Lod stretches in certain areas

Post by Ash The Juice Knight » Fri Mar 16, 2018 10:37 pm

I've noticed this weird LOD in 2 places in NV (the one on the screenshot and the one near Gun Runners) and in 1 place in 3 (near the temple of the union). Any ideas? Really disturbs me.

Also some trees in DC appear to blend with 2d lod tree sprites as well.

Both games are gog versions. Load order is the same as in installation guide. Mods do not affect this as turning them off and on was fruitless. Tweaking with different settings did not work either. Changing the Ugridstoload in fallout.ini also brings no results.

Is F:NV lod just that buggy?

That's a new one on me, that usually happens if a LOD nif is corrupted though.

I don't know what is causing the problem in the first picture.

In the second picture it is the FO3 tree LOD that is that buggy, that happens even in vanilla FO3. FNV stopped using tree LOD and just makes trees use object LOD (which is better).

Don't change uGrids settings, that is bound to cause problems.

Yes I changed the UGridsToLoad parameter to 5 (it was 5 before I edited the .ini).

I also tried to download newest drivers from intel an nvidia off. sites. No results.

I kind of managed to get rid of that heresy using this mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/47418

But it is not a perfect solution for me though as it butchers fps sometimes (Mostly near the Gun Runners factory area as there are a lot of bridges\buildings and other objects).

Also it affects the lod in WastelandNV only, so I travelled back to capital wasteland and was experimenting with the temple of the union area but I could not replicate the bug. So far so good.

Anyway thanks for response, I'll experiment further after work.

I also wanted to report some conflicting mods (sorry if it's not the right thread):

https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/37139

https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/61152

These mods are working okay from the technical point of view but they change some fallout 3 monsters (mostly supermutants). That is probably because instead of making new NPC's the authors just reused the non-used assets from fallout 3 in NV.

I think you have some corrupted files, or a LOD mod, or something else is causing the problem.

Thanks for letting us know about incompatible mods.

That looks like misaligned TerrainLOD. At the edge of cells, TerrainLOD has vertical faces that extend down well below the normal playable vertical level.

Ok I'm at home. Thanks for you reply Adonis VII. Any ideas on how to get rid of that without using the mod?

One guy on steam told me that fallout NV lod was not the best as the game was very rushed and not polished that well plus that some videocards do not handle it perfectly. Might be the case here as I do not remember anything like that on my old PC setup back in 2014 (I do remember dealing with constant crashes though).

Anyway I reduced the Object lod fade and it seems to be less laggy now. So if there is no solution I'll stick to that and the mod I guess.

Okay experimented even more. That mod does not help with some areas that still has that weird stretched effect. I've played mostly Fallout 3 content till not but the more I play the NV part the more problems I see. The mountains in the distance are flickering, roadsigns shadows are flickering aswell. Tried it with and without the mod.

Ok so this was only the beginning. After all this mess I uninstalled TTW and NV, then reinstalled them to test everything out. Now I can not load any saves that are within NV areas. I deleted those and tried to go there via train to check if the problem lies within the corrupted saves or the mod. I can not go to Mojave as well. The "two weeks later" message just keeps poping up for eternity.

TTW doesn't not touch NV's

TTW doesn't not touch NV's wasteland other than the station in Freeside.

I think your game files were simply corrupt and you did not know it.
