I have to use Windows 10

Post by Risewild » Fri Feb 16, 2018 2:03 pm

I have to use Windows 10 because there are no drivers for some of my hardware for older Windows versions.

So one of the reasons to upgrade to newer versions of OS might be hardware.

Yeah. My laptop is like that. I have to use W10 on it (which is why I feel confident in stating categorically that W10 sucks), and Ubuntu 17.10 for the linux side. W10 does cut some of the cruft out, which can make some things a tiny bit faster, but everything else about it is a clear step backwards. In my opinion (and remember that opinions are like a$$holes), they've been on a downhill slide since W7.

Anywho, my FX desktop runs W7 just fine, so I'll stick it out as long as I can get away with it.

Windows can get better

Post by James_T_Quirk » Sat Feb 17, 2018 12:15 am

Windows can get better results in VM, Have faith in Linux, turn off Virus Checkers, Firewalls, Services that Windows is doing in "background", I almost have Win7 pruned into a "CE" version, configure PC's HARDWARE in VM, but it will run software in VM well, also mostly you don't need for single player games, anyway, let Linux handle security, Windows can wander around Internet with knickers around ankles, LINUX is looking after things ..

jlf65, Nothing wrong with sticking with things that work, I have a Amiga 2000 here, 68060 132mg ram, it can still cruise internet, and it is SO old, I don't think they still write virus's for it, anyway ..

Sorry RoyBatty, You are completely Right, I have been reading this post, but chimed in about something related, or so I thought ..

I use to suffer from video stuttering as well, just my response was to strip windows down to a basic config, almost CE, and run it under Linux's Wine, with Internet off, steam in offline mode, another thing that will give hiccups, as it's constantly doing stuff in background, updates, downloads, watching YOU..

Once you get rid off all the little "services" that windows could/maybe running, it is almost stable, then you have a chance of getting hours/days of play, without a crash .... ( Linux Longest confirmed run time 874 days, Australia Antarctic Reseach Station, probably don't need a CPU Cooler)

Having said that, is Possible to get your Windows 10 the same way, I am not sure? But if you like Fallout series, as much as I do, keeping a PC with XP or Win7, Just for those Games, maybe a answer ...

Also 1 thing I should Mention is that has dmush checked his HARDWARE, faulty Ram on CPU or GPU boards can stuff everything up .. Maybe some Ram Component Testing could be in order ...
