Stuck at Main Screen

Post by Zagzagel » Fri Nov 04, 2016 5:22 am

Okay, this is my first posting, and I'm hoping that I'm doing this correctly. I've been playing TTW for a while now, and I haven't had too many problems. Most of them I've been able to correct myself. Today I tried to add a few extra mods, notably the TTW Interiors Project, DarNified UI F3 and 6ixes Clutter Texture Pack. When I started it back up, it would seemingly hang at the opening screen with the figure in Desert Ranger armour. The music would play, but neither the cursor or the TTL title text (nor the Continue, Load or what have you options for that matter) would appear. I removed the mods I mentioned and reset the fonts in the .ini files to what they were before I changed them in the suggestions  mentioned here. After doing all this, it still hangs at the opening. As I mentioned earlier, before I added the mods, it loaded fine. What do you think happened between now and then? I'm attaching my computer specs and load order.

My guess is that Darn Ui F3 is the culprit. IIRC Darn UI F3 is for Fallout 3, not Fallout New Vegas and so it is totally incompatible with TTW. If you want Darn UI you need to use Darn Ui FN.

Make sure you uninstall Darn Ui F3 properly (delete from the Data folder all the files it added in adition to revert the ini changes).

Thank you for your prompt

Thank you for your prompt reply. I've removed Darn UI F3 through FOMM. I've checked for any remaining parts of the mod and they're all gone. I tried installing the NV version of DarNified, but still no soap. It looks as if I'm going to have to go through my mods and turn them off one by one until it works again. I'm definately NOT looking foward to that. The thing is, I don't know if it's my load order or something else. Ah, well. C'est la vie...

Well try turning all of your mods off and see if it works. If so then try turning on half of them and see what happens. If it then fails then turn off half of them or if it did work then turn off half of the remaining mods. Just develop a process other than one at a time. Also sometimes it could be more than one mod so keep that in mind when doing any kind of process or testing.

Okay, I'm totally out of my element here. I must confess I don't know what I'm doing and I really need help. I've monkeyed around with this to the best of my ability, and I figure that the problem has to be either in my load order or the mods I'm loading as nothing I'm doing seems to work. I even reinstalled the game but it's still hanging up at the main screen as before. As I mentioned, I've removed the mods that seemed to break it using FOMM. As before, I'm attaching my current load order. Could someone please help? I'm going into TTW withdrawal...

Your load order broken.

Your load order broken. Download and install LOOT and use it to sort your load order as a start (it won't be perfect but much better than it is now), then see this thread on manually sorting your load order https://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/load-order-general-guide

Uninstall the following mods/plugins

  • Fallout Character Overhaul (the patch is outdated and breaks TTW)

  • ttw24rubblefix this is no longer needed (we're on 2.9.4a)

  • FalloutNV_lang.esp only english versions are supported

Make sure you have the hotfixes installed that are linked from the download page.

If you have any Fallout 3 mods which have not been converted for TTW, uninstall them. Many are available here on the forums and more on nexus. There is also a guide to convert mods yourself but it requires a little bit of knowledge on using FNVEdit and the GECK.

Roy, thanks for the help. I've got it to run again after completely uninstalling it, deleting all references to it in the registry, and deleting the folder. I reinstalled it from scratch and added the mods back in one at a time until I felt I wouldn't lose too much in my save games. It's working again now, so yay! I haven't tried the ttw interiors again, but NVInteriors seems to be working okay. Although one thing is weird. FOMM tells me that "nvse_loader.exe failed to launch. This operation requires operation." Although when I click directly on the nvse_loader it launches just fine and when I check in-game it says that NVSE is running, so I dunno. It works, so who am I to argue? I had LOOT once upon a time, so I'll get it and use it as you said.
