Overall Instability

Post by ZacAttack » Mon Oct 23, 2017 5:08 am

My game was stable for the most part for the longest time with rarely a crash. I merged some mods to reduce my load order and started a new game. After leaving vault 101 and walking around for a bit I had a rare CTD. So I loaded back up and didn't get a CTD in the same spot but got one a few minutes later. Now I'm experiencing freezing and CTD's. One crash resulted with an error message:

MICROSOFT VISUAL C++ RUNTIME LIBRARY

X RUNTIME ERROR!

Program:...)\Steam\Steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\FalloutNV.exe

This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

Please contact the application's support team for more information.

This is the only error I've recieved, maybe it has something to do with why I'm crashing all of the sudden? Could my mod merges be crashing the game? All of my crashes have been outdoors and I did merge all 4 Nevada Skies esps together. Any idea if thats the issue? Nevada Skies still works.

I do of course have NVAC, 4GB, NVSR enabled with the following ini tweaks made to use as an alternative to Zan's autopurge:

bPreemptivelyUnloadCells=0 to bPreemptivelyUnloadCells=1

bSelectivePurgeUnusedOnFastTravel=0 to bSelectivePurgeUnusedOnFastTravel=1

Honestly confused on this one, can't figure out why after hours of playing on a previous save I'm crashing on a new one now. Thanks for any help you guys/gals can give me.

Your load order is a frickin nightmare. You'd be best off starting from a completely vanilla install, then organizing things properly and making .bsa files.

Not to mention you use mods which are not compatible, you HAVE to read the FAQ.

A lot of mods comes with

A lot of mods comes with loose files... textures and meshes, mostly, but other files as well. It makes installing and uninstalling the mods a pain. Even just deactivating a mod - the loose files are still there and override anything else. So you should turn all those loose files into a BSA. There are utilities on the net that allow you to make your own BSA. BSA files are only used if the corresponding esm/esp is active, so it makes deactivating a mod or completely uninstalling a mod simple and easy.

Personally, I use the archive program that comes with the CK. Yes, it works fine for Fallout... as long as you don't check the compression option. The compression it uses is too new for Fallout 3/NV.

I find it weird that some mods come with both loose files AND a bsa that does not have those loose files in it. You have to copy BOTH for the mod to work. That is especially common for sound effects and voice where many modders still think you can't put sounds or voices into a bsa. The truth is, sounds and voices work just fine in a bsa with the proper flags set.
