Crash when booting up the game

Post by An Android » Tue Aug 09, 2016 12:35 am

I've spent all day trying to get New Vegas to work again, and have basically figured out that somehow this mod is causing it.

I got a clean game. And I tested every mod I had by installing it, and then booting up the game to see if it worked. Everything worked until I installed this. Despite the FAQ saying "No, it's not our mod". For some reason, the game keeps crashing before the menu.

And the thread the FAQ linked to didn't help either, because it assumes that I'm using darN, which I would never touch in a million years.

My load order:

  • - FalloutNV.esm

  • - DeadMoney.esm

  • - HonestHearts.esm

  • - OldWorldBlues.esm

  • - LonesomeRoad.esm

  • - GunRunnersArsenal.esm

  • - ClassicPack.esm

  • - MercenaryPack.esm

  • - TribalPack.esm

  • - CaravanPack.esm

  • - Fallout3.esm

  • - Anchorage.esm

  • - ThePitt.esm

  • - BrokenSteel.esm

  • - PointLookout.esm

  • - Zeta.esm

  • - TaleOfTwoWastelands.esm

  • - Project Nevada - Core.esm

  • - Project Nevada - Equipment.esm

  • - Project Nevada - Rebalance.esp

  • - Project Nevada - Cyberware.esp

  • - Project Nevada - Extra Options.esm

  • - TTW_NoKarmaDCFollowers.esp

  • - Project Nevada - Cyberware Additions.esp

  • - Project Nevada - Dead Money.esp

  • - Project Nevada - Gun Runners Arsenal.esp

  • - TTW_SpeechChecks.esp

  • - Project Nevada - Honest Hearts.esp

  • - Project Nevada - Rebalance Complete.esp

  • - Project Nevada - All DLC.esp

  • - Project Nevada - Lonesome Road.esp

  • - Project Nevada - Old World Blues (No Cyberware).esp

  • - The Mod Configuration Menu.esp

  • - TTW_Reputation.esp

  • - ttw_wildwasteland.esp

  • - TTWOptions.esp

  • - TTW_OutcastTrading.esp

And then on top of all those, I'm also using NVSE and FNV4GB

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Edit: Ok, I feel kinda dumb. I delved into troubleshooting, but never got into explaining the problem at hand in detail.

The problem is that when I boot up the game (the exe, not a new game), it goes to the legal disclaimers, and just as it starts to fade to the screen that says "Bethesda Softworks", it freezes (although the music is still playing, and the task manager doesn't read it as "not responding").

Apologies for not being specific. I've just been working on this problem for a while.

Download FNVEdit , start the program and let it load the load order you posted above, if there is something wrong with your load order, FNVEdit will notice (you will get an error message which states which plugin is missing its master). If there are no errors, try to delete your Fallout.ini and FalloutPrefs.ini in MyDocuments/Games/FalloutNV (but don't forget to make these changes again)

  • SCharGenQuest = 001FFFF8

  • sIntroMovie = (yes this one is blank on purpose, it needs to be blank)

  • bLoadFaceGenHeadEGTFiles = 1

Okay, FNVEdit didn't give me any errors, and I deleted those .ini's. I'm still freezing when the screen begins to fade to "Bethesda" though.

Also, could you clarify what you mean by this?

I understand that this is a change you recommend, but to which .ini?

You can put them in both.

You can put them in both. When the vanilla game first starts up, it looks to the ini files to "point" it to the "starting quest" (the opening scene) - which is different for both F03 and FNV. If you look in the ini's you'll see the first two, but probably not the last one. With TTW, they changed the starting quest to a "custom" one (encompasing both F03 and FNV), that's why you need to change it in the ini's. If not, the game will just hang on a "black" screen - the starting quest chain is basically "broken" so to speak. I've actually done this. The game is running, but the quest chain is broken so nothing happens; just a black screen with your hud if I remember correctly.

If you change the first two in the ini's and add the last one under [General], I believe, you should be good to go.

You don't need the separate PN dlc plugins with the all DLC plugin.

Are you on windows 10, do you have a 1000 series nvidia card?

@anstand To both of them?

@anstand To both of them? Okay.

Edit: Just looked. I didn't need to change anything. It was already like that.

@RoyBatty Windows 10, and sadly I'm stuck using a laptop with Intel HD Graphics Family, although I've played this game with far more mods than I have installed right now before, including this one.

Edit: Also, in case it isn't obvious, I don't entirely know what I'm doing, so I just included the full load order. I'll keep that in mind for the future though.

@Mystical Panda Oh, that's not the problem I'm experiencing. The crash isn't happening when I'm starting a new game. I mean like, when I'm literally loading up the exe. It goes to the legal disclaimers, then right as it starts to fade to the screen where it says "Bethesda Softworks", it freezes, but the music continues to play. Apologies for not clarifying.

Game won't run on Intel

Game won't run on Intel graphics.

Window 10 anniversary appears to have broken the game entirely in addition.

Just checked my settings, and it's not anniversary. It's Windows 10 Home.

As for the intel thing, is it just a problem in combination with 10, or was it an update to the mod? Because I've definitely gotten it to work in the past.
