Installation Issue

Post by Biosyn » Wed May 25, 2016 6:00 am

I'm not sure what my system specs are, I know I have Windows 10, I have either 8 or 6 gigs of RAM, and if needed I could did my computer's packaging out of storage to see about the processor. I bought the Fallout 3 GOTY from steam. EDIT: The computer shows AMD A10-8700P Radeon R6, 10 Compute Cores 4C+6G 1.80 GHz.

The problem is the installer can't find the Fallout 3 .esm .bsa files. The files are in the Data folder, which is in the Fallout 3 goty folder. The browse option in the installer won't display the files in the Data folder just the Music, Shaders and Video folders, it will also display only the Fallout3.exe and  FalloutNV.exe files in their respective folders.

I'm not a tech guy, and don't really understand what I'm looking at in regards to computers, so if it's not a tech issue and I'm just not understanding what the actual instructions are, then could you please explain it as if I were a grandparent.

FYI.... Right click the Window Icon in lower left corner. Then select system. There you will be shown what your processor and the amount of RAM you have installed...

Did you run the installer as admin?

Also the installer won't show the ESM's because it's looking for the game executable (fallout3.exe and falloutnv.exe). Anything that is not a folder or fallout 3/new vegas executable won't show up.

I ran it as admin, and I tried it after moving the Fallout3.exe into the Data folder, and I think I tried moving the .esm .bsa files into the Fallout 3 goty folder, but I if I did I moved them back to their original places.

The installer browser just wants you to select the .exes from their original folders, it finds all the rest based on that
perms:  either a full fireworks display spelling out "Puppettron Made This" anytime a user accesses my content in-game, or just give me credit somewhere.

Ok... So you followed the install instructions to the letter correct? Because the instructions are pretty straight forward and easy to follow. You do have legal versions of both FO3 and FONV installed along with all of the DLCs correct? If so I'd trash anything you have done at this point except of course you will not delete the FO3 and FONV folders which should be in your steam folder. Then start again following the instructions to the letter. It will ask you to tell it where the FO4 exe and the FONV exe are located. It will not even mention anything about esm or anything else.

On a quick side note, you can use CPU-Z, GPU-Z and a few other utilities like that to give you a report on what your hardware configuration currently is (cpu, motherboard, memory, etc.,.) if you need it for anything.

I don't really know what happened, but it worked fine today after getting home from work. No clue what changed, but I guess something did.
