Can't type "s" in console

Post by malakengago » Tue Oct 18, 2016 2:14 am

I'm having this weird issue where whenever I try to type the letter s in the console, it actually clears the entire line.  I've restarted my game a couple of times, and in my current playthrough, I have about 50 hours with this being the first big problem.  I normally don't use the console too much, but the only reason I found this issue was because I wanted to try resurrecting the slaver Leroy at the Lincoln memorial so I could kill him again and hopefully complete the quest Head of State.  I know this is a really weird issue since I couldn't find anything similar to this on google or here.  Other console commands I've tried before worked no with no problem, such as player.additem and of course tcl.

Never heard of a problem like

Never heard of a problem like your one before .

I can only suggest some general things since I have no idea what the cause for that is .

Do you play with a controller? If you do you might want to try using the keyboard (in the game settings change controller to keyboard) ingame while using the console.

Is your keyboard non english? If it is you might want to try and create a keyboard layout in english in your OS options and try playing using it (then reverting it back when not playing). One way of changing keyboard layouts (in case you already have more than one) is pressing Shift + Alt at the same time.

Thanks for responding.  I actually don't use a controller, and my keyboard is already a US keyboard.  I've never had this issue with other bethesda games, and I have had to use commands like setstage for Skyrim and FO4 with no issue like this.  Luckily for now, it really hasn't affected me gameplay wise, especially after finding out the quest Head of State is pretty buggy to begin with.  Posted more out of sheer curiousity to see if anyone else had ever heard of something like this.

I'm using Darnui, UIO, oHud

I'm using Darnui, UIO, oHud and Immersive Fallout 4 HUD, in that priority order in MO.  I didn't know that a HUD UI could also affect the console like that.  I'm also using a new mod called Keyboy which allows key shortcuts while using the pipboy and vendor menus, so I don't need to  use the mouse for everything.

I bet it's keyboy.

That would make a lot of sense, though it's disappointing if true since keyboy has made the game feel much more modern and streamlined since I've installed it.  I don't want to test the game without it since I actually merged its plugin with several others for my game, and like I said earlier, I don't use the console enough to make the loss of convenience worth it right now.  Interesting to learn though the console could be affected by ui mods like that though. Thanks for the reply.

It can and will be affected

It can and will be affected by the changes. Same if you try to use an auto Hotkey setup. (auto hotkey is an external app if you don't know.)

One thing you could try is to keep a text document with commands that you may want to use on it, then simply Alt tab out of the game copy the command. Return to game go into console and paste the command in.

That's an awesome suggestion.

That's an awesome suggestion.  Will save me time in having to look up some commands exact wording as well.  I will definitely set that up in case I'll need to use the console again in the future.  Thanks!

I do it mostly in FO4 because of an Auto Hotkey (Southpaw) setting. But ya it works nicely and keeps me from having to remember full commands from time to time.
