Veronica & Elder Hardin won't begin conversation during 'I Could Make You Care'

  • Quest objective 140 (bring the pulse gun back to the elder at Hidden Valley) will not complete. Veronica will approach Elder Hardin's desk and the two will stare at each other silently. Trying to begin a conversation using E with either will result in the error beep. After 2-3 minutes the staring will stop and both can be spoken to again, no quest related dialogue is available for either.

  • What you have already tried?


  •  


  • take pulse gun out of inventory and back in (no change)


  • setstage console command (no change, quest marker stays same and quest does not advance)


  • movetoqt from Bunker Level 1 (teleport behind Hardin, same scenario plays out)


  • dismiss all companions except Veronica (no change)


  • resetquest console command and attempt to retrigger quest (Vault 3, Camp McCarran and Boomer Museum all function to begin her conversations but the actual quest will not start)


  • completequest console command (quest completes with xp gain and Veronica speaks two short lines; not sure if in line with Brotherhood or Followers ending; "Listen, I want to thank you for helping me out etc.")


I'm not sure if its related or not but I began the quest with Elder McNamara and completed Still in the Dark to put Hardin in power while I Could Make You Care was in progress. However this was 20 or so hours play time back and would like to avoid having to revert if possible.

I learned early on to by-pass all of those alternative BOS scenarios and optional sidequests, including talking to Hardin. That quest-line is buggy enough anyway.


My computer specs are too embarrassing to reveal, but the game still runs.

This is an incredibly vexing, buggy quest. I think it's thrown a fit every time I've played it, TTW or no. 


My advice would be to load a previous save if you have one before you get the pulse gun. Actually before you get any additional piece of evidence for Veronica; just find one and bring it back without going after any of the others.

Goes to show me - I searched these forums multiple times but I never tried Google. This fix worked for me!


 


Just to repost: Since this community occured to be weak in those type of questions i'v lurked about it myself. 10-15 sites and there it is:




When you enter elder's hall, Veronica slowly walks to elder and stands then. At that moment do:

- Console

- click on the elder

- if the elder is Hardin type: sayto e2f88 VMS49ElderDiscussion2Intro

- unpause game

- if they stop after a few phrases(Veronica don't say her final dialog "Come on. I can't listen to this anymore") then go to console and do the trick again. They start from begining but this time it will be full dialog.



Go out of elder's hall, Veronica asks for a fresh air ...you continiue on quest.
