Post by jlf65 » Thu Mar 01, 2018 1:57 pm

Is this vanilla radio, or mod radio music? For music to play through a radio in  FONV/TTW, the music needs to be in wav or ogg format. The TTW installer converts most of the vanilla music, missing Agatha's music and the DLC radio signals, but naturally can't convert any modded music. Note that this only affects radios, not the Pip Boy. So if the Pip Boy plays the music but radios don't, you don't have the converted music. If the Pip Boy won't play the music, then the music is missing or in the wrong path.

Music can be .wav, .ogg or .mp3 . The radios work fine so I suspect something else going on or maybe trying to listen to them in child worldspaces like megaton or the downtown areas. But that would only affect GNR and only before the dish is fixed. That's been fixed in 3.x (also the Vault 101 emergency distress signal).

Enclave Radio and others should be fine.

The installer doesn't convert anything audio wise, dunno where you got that. The issue with Agatha's station is a vanilla bug.

The good news is that I have seen people having this problem over the years. The bad news is that it can be a lot of different things.

One of the reasons is bad codec packs, this can usually be fixed by uninstalling those. But sometimes its not even obvious, for example, some Epson scanner software had some codecs or something that interfered with the game pipboy music for example.

Another reason might be that your Sound Playback Device settings might be using stuff like "hdmi audio" device instead of "Speakers" .

I think some realtek speaker settings can also give that problem IIRC (not checking the box that says "Speaker fill" or something).

This was a really common problem many years ago, and unfortunately can be caused by a large amount of things. I can only remember these I mentioned.

Since I never had the problem myself I can't really help more.

I got the idea that the installer converts music to ogg because before you setup TTW, there were no FO3 ogg files, and once TTW is setup, there were ogg files. There was a whole thread on what format the music should be converted into given known issues with FONV and certain formats.

As to radios and audio formats, a hard coded radio set to a single channel can be mp3. The pip boy can be mp3. An "NPC" radio cannot be mp3. You run into this with "tuneable" radios. I ran into this with Agatha's music not coming through a tuneable radio, and that's when I went looking for music formats and found that her announcements aren't mp3 while her music was. Converting her music to wav or ogg fixed the problem. He stated that he could hear announcements, but not music, and that's EXACTLY what you get with this format issue.

ok sorry for the late

Post by nepatsfan » Fri Mar 02, 2018 12:21 am

ok sorry for the late responce but to answer a few questions, one im talking about GNR and enclave not vegas radio as i havent been to vegas yet, second when i checked the files for the radio, the new vegas radio files folder was full of the music from FONV but the "radio" file which i think was the copied 3 folder was completely empty and i checked my fallout 3 to see if the music wasint there in the first place and it was and enclave and GNR did play. not sure about converting the files and cant tell where i should look to go about that, thanks!

Risewild is correct in that

Post by RoyBatty » Fri Mar 02, 2018 3:30 am

Risewild is correct in that codec packs can mess with the game, particularly old versions of FFDSHOW where the games are not excluded from using it. Also check your audio settings and make sure that your audio devices advanced playback settings default format is set to 2 channel, 16 bit 48000 Hz. The default on Windows these days is 96 KHz which will cause lots of problems.

@jlf

Nothing is converted to .ogg in TTW, if they are converted on your end then *you* converted them. They are .mp3 and .wav and they work perfectly fine. Additionally .ogg is just a container and not a codec, it can contain mp3 audio, flac, vorbis or any other encoding format it supports.

The problem with Agatha's music is something else entirely, the mp3s are mono when they should be stereo iirc.

ok so i tried this and this

Post by nepatsfan » Fri Mar 02, 2018 4:30 am

ok so i tried this and this wasint the issue and i see the music in the bsa files in fomm but when i literally click on GNR or enclave ill hear 3 dogs or JHE speak some of there lines but no music after 3 dog gives the music cue, ive also herd some missing gun sounds like slienced 10mm pistols firing or lincolin repeter reload sounds. dont know if that helps narrow it down and i also  tried extracting all the songs into the radio folder that is in my sounds folder next to a radio folder labeled "radioNV" that had all the uncompressed music in it and that didnt work either. thanks again everyone!

Other way around - they were definitely stereo, and I converted them to mono. So it's mono vs stereo rather than the actual  encoding? That makes some sense. And I have no idea what converted the other music files, but it wasn't me. I'd look into that more, but I've decided to just wait on 3.x. With everything that has been fixed in 3.x, I figure a little wait is worth the lack of hassle over certain problems.
