Sudden Low FPS and long loading?

Post by Postal-Dude » Sat May 23, 2015 9:13 pm

Hey TTW Community.

Im playing with the TTW mod for a few days and ran into a problem. The game and mod(s) run flawlessly and I dont have any crashes or bugs. But I can tell of Sudden Low FPS and long loading for example when I access the inventory of something or somebody. I dont have it all the time. It comes suddenly and goes suddenly as it wants but I think its mostly the case in the Wasteland and bigger Areas in general. I didnt have any of such problems in the Main Fallout 3 and New Vegas game, even with mods, which are mostly the same in TTW. I post a modlist here, maybe you see something that could cause this. It often feels like loading to me, like the game is loading or something. Inventory loads sometimes 5+ seconds which is more than it may sound like. Usually it takes some milliseconds...

Additional to it im using NVSE 4.6B1, 4GB Fallout, Stutter Remover, NVAC, Enhanced Camera, Lutana NVSE

Game is running on max settings 1920x1080 4xAA Vsync but that are the same settings that I used with the no TTW Vanilla FO3,NV games and there werent any problems at all. Hell, I even used NMC Maximum Textures and even then it was smooth. (Im not using those actually)

My Hardware is the following:

CPU: AMD FX 8350 @ Stock

GPU: AMD R9 280X Toxic

RAM: 8GB

OS: Win 7 64Bit

Drivers are the latest.

Is this maybe normal for TTW? Wouldnt wonder me considering its still in Alpha or am I the only one experience such issues? And yes, Im using the new TTWOptions ESP file that was in the download directory as hotfix. Version is 2.9.4.

Thanks for any help.

no, that's not normal, and it's probably a mod issue

I found that it was Mart's Mutant Mod that suddenly bombed my performance. Uninstalled it, and my framerates are back to normal.

Did you download the TTWOptions hotfix at the download page?

I see you're using an 8350. Just as a general performance boost for the FX family of CPUs, use RadeonPro and set New Vegas to use core 1, 3, 5 & 7. When under heavy multithreaded workloads, there is a performance penalty when threading between both cores of a module. This can be averted by using only one core per module.

And for general slow loading (accessing the inventory, long activation delays, etc.), try moving the .bsa files to a Ramdisk. There's a thread on this forum about using Ramdisks with TTW.

also, the bug with options was game-loading, not menu-loading.

Hum. First I thought MMM could be the reason for the sudden low FPS and long Inventory and Menu loading but nope.

Its still there, even after a complete cell reset. Im wondering what might be the problem... Really annoying. I feel like its only in special locations like the Meresti Train Station. When I passed this location I get long inventory and menu loading even after some mins but sometimes it stops. FPS are lower than normal too. Also I notice my GPU to have pressure or something because the Fan turns up which is very unusual for Fallout... Its not really demanding and never experienced anything with Vanilla and similar mods installed. Just TTW.

Added FalloutNV.exe to RadeonPro and set core affinity to 1,3,5,7. Doesnt really seem to make a difference.

After many tries I found the problem!

It was Vurts Flora Overhaul mod - Dead Wasteland TTW Version.

This mod seemed to cause lowered FPS and Stutter. Dont ask me why. Maybe its not working correctly? After I removed it, everything works fine. Actually everything worked already after removing the Floraoverhaul and Vurt WFO esp. The trees and everything where still ingame but no stutter or FPS problem anymore. What do those esps do? Do they add something that can cause low FPS or stutter? Cant remember having this issue with the Vanilla FO3 and NV versions. Seems like the main problem is one or both of the ESPs. The trees itself doesnt seem to cause any problems. Someone experienced something similar? May try disabling the ESPs and report if you have improved FPS and less stutter. Maybe some guys just didnt noticed this problem.

Guess I will keep using the mod but without the esps. I will see if there are any problems or not.

EDIT:

Well FPS have improved a lot just like the Stuttering. I think its fixed but... The long loading of inventory, dialogues or menus persists but its not always. Weird issue... Its like something is limiting Fallout or it has to much to load. I think the 4GB fix works, checked logs. My Fallout takes around 1+ GB. Is this normal? Or could it take more?

Found the same problem here I think: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1068602-searchingopening-containersbodiesmenu-annoying-delay/

Read that it maybe has to do with the Ram trashing the fallout process or something. I think it gets worse after opening several inventories or menus. Is there maybe a fix for this?

Still wondering what the FloraOverhaul ESPs are for. What exactly do they do? Mod seems to work fine even without them running.

I used to have the 5 second wait when looting objects. Gopher(Youtuber) had it also. The advice he got was to trim the players inventory, by carring smaller amounts of items. Something like 200 rounds of ammo instead of 900. It never worked for me. In the end I uninstalled all mods that added extra combat NPCs and everything works fine.

I've gotten the slowdown and lagging frequently especially when looting or opening containers especially if I've been in a combat situation with a lot of crap going on. Whenever I encounter this I associate it to memory leak (or as mentioned above ram trashing if you want to use that term) which is pretty common with the Fallout games. Whenever it happens I just do a save and then select the saved game and it usually clears up. If not then I quit the game and just restart from the save. But I've never encountered the problem because of a mod. Maybe I've just been lucky in that regard.

Well, I made some changes to my game now.

I removed Vurts Flora Overhaul completely now, I can life without it. Additionally I installed NMC Texture Pack Maximum TTW optimized version. And then I installed a mod called Zan AutoPurge Crash Protector. It empties the cell buffers. This seemed to be my problem. Now after running the game with this plugin I didnt experienced long inventory loading or whatever. Played 3 hours with it now. You can just leave the default settings or change them in the MCM option window. I lowered them personally. Runs perfectly now. May give it a try if you experience something similar. Marts Mutant Mod is btw installed again.

Well I also run with the Zan autoperge mod and it does work very well. But even with it I will still get occasional lagging and slowdowns as well as slow opening of containers at times. As I said above if you do happen to encounter it you can try just waiting for the time you set in the mcm menu to see if it clears or do a quick save process mentioned above to resolve it.
