So i tried downloading from the mirrors and the file that downloads ends in .7z and as such noting i have will open it, is this a browser issue or something else or is there another program i need to get.

.7z is the format of the free
.7z is the format of the free archive packer/unpacker software 7zip. You can open it using the 7zip software or using other archive software like Winrar for example (which I think is a paid software, can't remember if it has a free trial).
