TTW Installer cannot find Fallout 3

Post by Kadorhal » Mon Dec 08, 2014 1:18 am

Running on Windows 7 with 3GB RAM and an AMD Anthlon 64 X2 dual-core, 5.2GHz combined. Both games were bought over Steam, Fallout 3 GOTY and original New Vegas.

My issue is that when I run the installer, it somehow completely fails to find Fallout 3, even after I point it in the right direction. I'll start the installer and, well, let me quote the install log:

All I can think that's causing the problem is that the installer thinks the files should be somewhere else - say, the folder just being named Fallout 3 and not Fallout 3 goty - except the installer worked just fine with the exact same files a week ago. Renaming it to just "Fallout 3" and double-checking that nothing was set to read-only did nothing.

The other possible cause I see is I uninstalled the non-GOTY version of the game sometime after that first attempt to install the mod, since it's a redundant use of hard drive space now, but that doesn't make sense either given that that's not where the installer was looking the first time anyway.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

literally one minute after i posted this it decides it can suddenly find the files properly

apparently "NO these files are NOT READ-ONLY" only counts as long as the properties window is up

Well, anyway, as I mentioned I tried installing the mod once before, and that time the main .fomod apparently missed a .bsa or three, so I guess it saves me the effort of having to make this thread anyway when something else goes wrong later. I'll keep you posted.

EDIT: What do you know, it actually worked this time. Apologies for wasting your time, then.

I am having this issue and somehow it's not registering anything. All it isn't registering is the .esm and .bsa files

What do you know, reinstalled

Post by Kadorhal » Sat Sep 10, 2016 7:20 pm

What do you know, reinstalled the latest version on a new computer and had the same problem again, this very thread was the first result Google gave me.

Anyway, apologies for bumping a nearly two-year-old thread, but on the chance that more people keep having this problem, I think I figured out what exactly went on. The issue seems to be that I needed to change the read-only setting for the Fallout 3 folder, then run or reset the TTW installer (running as administrator, of course) so it actually acknowledged the change.

Made an account while installing just to say thank you. Haven't gotten that one before so I was pretty confused.
