FNV4GB.exe Unable to Set Game Dir

Post by duckyduckyquackquack » Fri Jul 10, 2015 11:08 am

So I've had some teething problems over the past few weeks and completely uninstalled and reinstalled my game files and mods to try to correct a crash issue I was having. It appears I have done that now but the only issue I have now is I can't launch the game with the FNV4GB launcher. I get a message "Unable to set Game Dir to Current Dir. The System can not find the specified path"

I've tried re-downloading the FNV4GB from the nexus and unzipping into my game directory again, overwritting anything it asks to do and I still get this prompt when trying to launch the game.

I can start the game fine with the NVSELoader.exe or any of the FalloutNV.exe fine but just not the 4GB one.

From the mod's installation

From the mod's installation instructions on the Nexus:

It is recommended to copy the FNV4GB.exe and fnv4gb_helper.dll to the New Vegas installation directory.

Have you placed the executable and plugin in your New Vegas installation directory?

Yep, exactly the same folder

Yep, exactly the same folder I always add it to, for me found at C:\Games\SteamApps\common\Fallout New Vegas

This folder has the FalloutNV.exe, FalloutNVLaucher.exe, GECK.exe, NVSELoader.exe so where I have always put the FNV4GB.exe

I may try just verifying my game files with Steam to make sure it has downloaded and installed everything properly.

The 4gb enabler works only

The 4gb enabler works only with a legitimate, steam version of the game. It's usually pretty cheap.

Sorry for the confusion, glad

Sorry for the confusion, glad we have got that sorted out. I'd never ever pirate a game and have owned Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas since 2012, I played them after getting into Bethesda games following Skyrim.

As for my issue I have fixed it. Verifying my game files, showed I had 13 files that steam needed to reaquire. When I then ran the game with the normal FalloutNV.exe I got the launcher pop up, but I hit play and loaded the game up to the menu then quit. When I then selected the FNV4GB.exe this time it loaded okay. So must have just been an install issue caused by steam.

Glad it's sorted now as running with just NVSE I kept getting out of memory errors.
