Hand-held Pip-Boys

Post by Sentient6 » Thu Jun 04, 2015 2:48 pm

I know they cause problems with Tranquility Lane and Operation Anchorage, but after I complete both those quests, is it safe to install one? I really, really don't like the default pipboy.

PS. I assume retextures of the default are safe, though, right?

The Pitt maybe makes troubles and the transition to NV does surely too.

I have had no problems with the hand-held pipboys after those two areas. I often play more than one character at a time, however, and may have characters who have completed those areas and one or two which have not. The main thing I do not like about the pipboy 3000 is its appearance, and I do not really care whether, when activated, it appears in the hand or on the arm. So I have started using the pipboy remover mod which seems to work from the beginning and is not visible at all unless activated.

My computer specs are too embarrassing to reveal, but the game still runs.

Read here for how to use A Familar Friend with TTW.  To my knowledge it is the ONLY pip-boy replacer that can work.

The reason for this is that AFF provides a robust means for uninstalling itself and reverting to vanilla, which you will need to do several times if you want any pip-boy replacer to work with TTW.

I think if you install Readius AFTER you've done Anchorage and Tranquility Lane you should be safe.

Hm, AFF is the one I had my eye on, since I got a bit tired of Readius (have been using it since FO3). I'll install it after I complete TL and OA and see if there will be any issues.

I like the arm mounted version, and it works perfectly without having to uninstall it.
