TTW Installer 2.4a getting Stuck at updating files and how I solved it

Post by NageTyr » Wed Feb 26, 2014 5:15 pm

Hello everyone,

First of all excuse my bad english...

I recently had a problem installing TTW and I'd like to share how I sloved it:

The installer got stuck at "Updating Voice Files" from the menuvoices.bsa.

I read about the installer taking quite some time but as my computer runs on an i7 and 8GB of RAM and a much slower computer owned by a friend of mine did the task in no time, meaning something was wrong.

My first attempt on solving the issue was to place the installation folders of both games as well as the TTW folder on the desktop like I read on this forum. Didn't work. Next I tried was changing the BSAopt x86 and x64 version which didn't work either.

I've been looking up that problem for some time but no one seemed to have a solution, and since the Install Log.txt was blank I went on trying on my own. At some point after restarting the installer the 10th time I had the idea of deleting the TempExtract folder in the TTW folder. I restarted it once again and this time it worked.

It recompressed the menuvoices.bsa and went on to the next file and, oh surprise!, same issue over here...

Updating voice files once again, but no CPU usage or anything else. I thought "Okay delete that temp folder again", but this time it didn't work. Tried it several times but it was no help at all this time. I looked at the Install Log.txt once again and this time it was full with "unable to find file" errors, the installer hadn't told me about. Thinking about how that happened I got the idea that BSAopt hadn't done its work correctly. I closed the installer, deleted the contents of the temp folder, then unpacked the bsa file with fomm and placed the content in the temp folder. I started the installer and suddenly it worked. I had my fomods in no time.

I thought maybe that might help some of you

Cheers, Nagetyr
