installer problems

Post by R5CYA » Wed Jan 01, 2014 4:05 am

Hello, I'm having trouble installing the alpha. after i download the installer to my desktop, i try and run it as administrator, it finds my copy of fo3 and fo-nv on the F drive. when i attempt to install TTW in my f:steam\steam apps\common\fallout new vegas folder, the command prompt window finally popped up on a recent try, but there was no text in it. i have the C++ for x64 and x86. fallout3 goty, was purchased from ubisoft a few days ago and activated on steam. i've started it and it works fine. fallout new vegas was purchased through steam about a year ago as the regular game and i bought the dlc afterwards. it works fine as well. what i get when i hit the install button is this,

checking for required files

all files found. proceeding with installation

fallout3 -misc.bsa has already been built,  moving on.

fallout3 -meshes.bsa has already been built, moving on.

fallout3 -textures.bsa has already been built, moving on.

fallout3 -sounds.bsa has already been built, moving on.

fallout3 -menuvoices.bsa have already been built, moving on.

building fallout3 -voices.bsa...

done

updating voice files...

then it just sits there. no sign of life for hours. i'm attaching a dxdiag and will try and see if there's a launch log.

i'm using nexus mod manager. (though i'm not getting far enough to use it) it only has dlc from fallout new vegas on it and is checked. all other mods are unchecked.

any idea what i'm doing wrong? if you need any other info, please let me know. i'm really dieing to try this out.

p.s. i also tried to do a manual install following chucksteels thread, but i did not have the same files he had. tried downloading a couple times in case some files didn't get sent, but it's the same every time.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Don't do this.  Read the instructions.  DO NOT tell the installer to install directly to your FNV folder.

That is normal - the text echo is off for all of the command prompts.

Make sure you have 2005, 2008, 2010, and 2012 all installed on your system.

Right now I don't know if anyone has tested TTW with the Ubisoft download.  I didn't even know there was such a thing.  Apparently there is.  http://shop.ubi.com/store/ubiemea/pd/productID.291424900/

See above. If you've fixed those other issues and you pick a clean blank folder as your "install path" for TTW, and it still doesn't work, it may be caused by this Ubisoft version of FNV.  All the versions of FO3 are slightly different - steam, disc, etc.

Yay another version of FO3! Apparently they have NV too, hopefully it's the same.

thank you for the reply. i

thank you for the reply. i was using the "sticky" Chucksteel install guide. step 3 said to put the files in the New Vegas folder, or put them in a separate folder and then move them into the New Vegas folder. hopefully when i send them to a new folder it'll work.

i have the 2005, 2008 and 2012 versions of C++. i ran into some problems with 2010. it kept saying there was already a newer version and didn't want to install. i'll make sure all four are installed.

i sure hope this has nothing to do with the game being purchased from Ubisoft. if it turns out to be, i guess i can always gift it away and get it from steam before the sale is over.

i'll go back to work on it and report back later.

thanks again and have a great New Year!

ok. installing to an empty

Post by R5CYA » Wed Jan 01, 2014 9:16 pm

ok. installing to an empty folder on my desktop did the trick. it installed in 19 minutes. problem now, is when it was done, it asked if i wanted to use a mod manger and i said yes, it created one fomod.TaleOfTwoWastelands_234_Options . it did not make a fomod for the main files folder. when i open the mod manager, the choice to activate the options is there. but it won't let me as there still is no main TTW.

do i need to install the main and folder to the new vegas folder manually? or is there an easy way to make that folder into fomod, myself? i've never played around with this stuff before.

If the installer failed to

Post by thermador » Thu Jan 02, 2014 6:09 pm

If the installer failed to make the .fomods, did you still get all the files in the "main" folder - all the .bsa, .esm, etc. files like these?

  • Fallout3.esm

  • All "Fallout3" .bsa files

  • Anchorage.esm

  • Anchorage.bsa

  • ThePitt.esm

  • ThePitt.bsa

  • BrokenSteel.esm

  • BrokenSteel.bsa

  • PointLookout.esm

  • PointLookout.bsa

  • Zeta.esm

  • Zeta.bsa

  • TaleOfTwoWastelands.esm

If you did get all of those files in your empty folder, then for a manual install you just copy them to your FNV directory.  And make sure to follow the rest of the manual install changes on the download page including the .ini edits.

Or, you can try making an .fomod yourself using FOMM, and then installing it with FOMM - assuming you replaced your FOMM .exe with the large-address-aware version that is available on the download page.

yes, i have 24 esm and bsa

Post by R5CYA » Fri Jan 03, 2014 1:14 am

yes, i have 24 esm and bsa files from anchorage to zeta. they are in a main folder in the data folder. should i pull them out of the main folder and have them all open in the data folder? looking at the instructions that come with the alpha, it appears that's what the problem is. i'll give that a try.

i did make the .ini changes in both places.

what's the easiest way to tell when i'm successful with this?

SUCCESS!

SUCCESS!

i got tired of trying to get the files installed manually, so i gave the installer another try. this time it did make fomods for both the main and options files. i loaded it all into the NMM and set the load order as per your instructions and launched New Vegas. BINGO! right there on the opening screen, Tale of Two Wastelands! i loaded a saved game and headed for the station in Freeside. there it was, in all it's glory! gonna go have some fun with it now.

thanks for the help! i'll report back after playing around with it.
