Installer taking OBSCENELY long

Post by I_AM_A_HOMOSAPIEN » Wed Dec 11, 2013 1:40 am

So, I got the installer, got it working and all… and I left my computer for the installer to do its thing.

It's been 24 hours, hasn't installed, so I stopped it and tried dragging the files into my Fallout NV Data folder. No Taleoftwowastelands.esm. No BSA file, either. So I left the files as they were, and tried the installer again.

All the files it had in the TempInstall folder disappeared. Just disappeared. Help?

System Specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium, 4gb RAM, Intel Dual Core i5 processor

My load order doesn't necessarily matter yet, right? I don't even have it installed. I do have all the DLCs, though.

Symptoms: After roughly 2 hours (tried the installer again, took significantly less time), the installer will stop working, with a pop-up error window, can't specifically remember what it says, I'll get that when I have time,

I've already tried restarting the installer multiple times, three or four now, and it's still ended the same way.

Alright, are you running an x32 or x64 system?

x64. I did the thing where you delete the x32 BSAOpt and it wouldn't even start. I might try that again.

Well without the error

Well without the error message it gets much harder to troubleshoot your error.

Alright, just tried it again. "Failed to create Taleoftwowastelands.bsa. If this problem persists, report it." That's all it gave me. This was ~2 hours into the installation. Maybe three.

Just noticed that you still have no install log, that would be helpful as well.

A few possibilities:

  • Your game is pirated

  • Your version of Fallout 3 is non-english

  • Your version of Fallout 3 is corrupted or not up to date

  • You do not have enough free disk space

Solutions:

  • Go buy the game off of steam

  • Get the english version of the game

  • Make sure it is fully patched, if you still receive the error, do a full, clean reinstall

  • It is a good idea to have around 10GB of free space on the install drive

There may be other possibilities, but that is some starting ideas.

Strangely enough, the install log is completely blank.

-My games are not pirated

-Nope, English

-That might be it…

I have about 100GB of free space.

For safety's sake do a full

For safety's sake do a full reinstall for FO3, and I mean delete EVERYTHING in the FO3 folder and reinstall from scratch.

Then try again.

Hopefully that is the issue, because there isn't much else.
