Installation Times & Size

Post by HestonHeaton » Sun Dec 08, 2013 5:23 pm

So, I was wondering how much free disk space do you need on your main drive to make an installation?

I just sat through 3 hours of installation just to get an error about Sounds.bsa being unable to patch.

I think it might have had something to do with Disk Space. I had 5 GB on my main drive before I began the installation and now I have only 1, Even though both games and the mod itself is installed on another drive.

I guess you can't get around this problem as it is Windows itself that behaves this way when copying files (Files are always copied from drive X to the main drive before continuing to their destination)

I don't know If I'm right in any of this but if any of the developers happen to be on here then they can perhaps answer my question.

I've never narrowed down the exact size you need, but I would assume in the realm of 8GB is recommended. Time is dependent on various factors: RAM, CPU, Hard Disk.

I have found that it added a total of 6gb to my FNV folder, not sure if it added anymore on the drive anywhere else, so I would say run safe 10gb free.

So I freed up some space and the installation continued, it required about 7g free space all in all to complete the installation.

But I did get two version errors on Mothership Zeta and Point Lookout and their associated .bsa's, so I don't know if this will affect installation size.

(Don't really know what this means and if it's possible to fix at all)

Will keep on tinkering and try to get this shit running, Good work to all you who have been in development of this mod.

The installer is fucking excellent and except these version errors everything has worked out really well so far! :)

the PL and Zeta issues are known by the team. The workaround is to unpack there .bsa's with FOMM or BSAopt and place the files in your Data folder. (There will still be some missing meshes) This issue is fixed (we hope) in the next update.
