Can't install, Possible cause from external hard drive?

Hi, I'm trying to install TTW on a copy of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, both of which are on an external hard drive. However, the install freezes immediately with a blank terminal window.

When I previously attempted to install with Fallout 3 on my computer's hard drive and New Vegas on my external, it began to install, giving me two lines of text before freezing. This leads me to make the educated guess that the external hard drive is the source of the problem. Is this a possible cause, or is this just me being a dumb arts student?

Dumb arts student I'm afraid. The blank terminal window is normal, be patient. If, after an hour, there has been no progress, come back and we can try to help more.

Might want to wait more than an hour if you have an old computer or external. It takes about 1 1/2 hours on my 3 year old laptop iirc.
