Game Starting in NV / Missing Meshes

So, here's the story. I had read about TTW and decided to install it; I went and found my Fallout 3 discs, installed that and basically just ran into it with my already modded New Vegas client. (WMX, EVE, JIP CCC for those interested) I downloaded all the compatibility patches and got my game running. I started a new game and played for a bit, but all along the way I was experiencing issues with missing meshes on various weapons (apparently FO3 weapons that do not have NV counterparts, even though things like the Railway Rifle worked fine). I decided it was symptomatic of the intersecting spheres of influence of TTW, WMX, and EVE not agreeing. I was able to ignore it for the most part, but while playing Broken Steel unfortunately I ran into a portion where you're supposed to retrieve an item, and lo and behold I am missing the mesh for said item. So with what I saw as a mod conflict or some other modded weirdness, I decided the best course of action would be to just do fresh installs of FO3, NV and TTW with no external mods for the best results. 


I tried to start a new game and ended up in Goodsprings. That's when I decided to look to the forums for help, but in the middle of writing this thread I decided to try booting up my old save, fully expecting it to fail or crash. Oddly enough, I got in and the critical quest item mesh is still missing. 


So here I am with two absolutely vanilla installs of both games missing meshes and starting new games in the wrong place. Also, oddly enough when running the installer, it read the BSAs as having already been constructed. I had already checked my Data folder before running the installer to make sure it had installed cleanly from Steam, and there were none of the requisite files there until after installation.


I ran BOSS on my load order, that's pretty much it.

You probably need to edit

You probably need to edit your .ini files:



You need to make an edit to your .INI file so that you start the game properly.  This is normally done by the .fomod when it is installed.




  • The file you're looking for is C:\Users\YourName\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV\Fallout.ini


  • You may also want to make the changes in FalloutDefault.ini in the game folder as well, if you use the normal game launcher for some reason.  Using that launcher overwrites Fallout.ini with the values in FalloutDefault.ini every time it's run. 


  • Make these changes:


    • SCharGenQuest = 001FFFF8


    • sIntroMovie = (yes this one is blank on purpose, it needs to be blank)


    • bLoadFaceGenHeadEGTFiles = 1
